View Full Version : We got Married on Monday 12/8/03
Bertsluv 12-09-2003, 02:47 PM Hi Everyone,
We had our wedding yesterday and it was wonderful. I actually almost forgot my Baby was in prison. My Dad walked me down the aisle and we played our song. It was emotional and beautiful. The guards made me angry but what else is new. My Dad forgot his ID and they did not give us any oppurtunity to locate something for him. It was a flat no, he could not go in. I was very upset and almost cried. But once we rove around I remebered that my car is in his name. So we got the registration out and that worked. So my Daddy was able to walk me down the aisle. It was great. We got alot of pictures and also got the whole ceremoney on tape. I will try to put some on here if I can. Afterwards we went down to the reception area and had some steaks and all. His request. It was great and I handled leaving him there ok. But all in all it was a great day.
Thanks Everyone and God Bless.
Shannon

Sounds like you had a rare prison wedding. You got music and a steak dinner. Sounds like it was very beautiful and we would love to see pictures
I have questions about your wedding and if I have left anything out then please add that as well
1. Did you have any counsling
2. How long did the whole process take
3. Did you have to find your own minister
4. Were you allowed any flowers or disposable camera
5. How many guests were allowed to be there
6. What was the process to get the marriage license
7. What were the costs you had to pay
8. What were the two of you allowed to wear
9. Were you allowed to bring a wedding band in for him or did it have to be mailed and what was the value limit

Bertsluv 12-23-2003, 07:32 AM Here are some answers to your questions tnc.
1. Yes we had 4 counseling sessions that were 1 hour long.
2. It depends on the chaplain. He rushed ours because my husband's father is very ill.
3. No we used the chaplain there. However you can use your own is you wish.
4. We took 3 rolls of film and a video camera. We also had flowers. I had a bouquet and also we had a flower centerpiece at the reception.
5. We had a total of 6 guests. 5 of which were from the outside and 1 was a fellow inmate. We had our parents and his grandmother there.
6. The process in Mecklenburg, NC was very simple. Once you have completed all of the counseling session, the chaplain and head of programs complete an affadavit stating that the fiance is in prison and unable to be present at the time of the license application. This should be taken care of by the DOC officials. Then they mailed me the affadavit and i went to the register of deeds, presented the affadavit and my ID, then filled out the application, paid my $50 and they gave me the application. It must be completed by the chaplan and witnesses after the ceremony. Then the chaplain mails it back to the register of deeds office. I also paid $10 to get a certified copy of the license so I can get my name changed.
7. See above. $50.00 for the application and $10.00 for a certified copy.
8. We were able to wear whatever we wanted. He wore a dress shirt, black jeans and a tie. I wore a dress. It is up to you want you want to wear.
9. I brought our rings in. There was no value limit or anything.
Now keep in mind. He is in honor grade level 2 (minimum scurity). It is alot more laid back there. It is a whole different thing in Medium Security. Also it may vary from state to state.
Please let me know if you need any other answers. I am here to help.
God Bless
