o.k. my sweetie agreed to go to a pre release work program at Parchan. He will be coming from SMCI and I just hate change. I am all the way in virginia and do not even know where Parchman is located and which airport I would have to fly into. I hear that somehow, someway the males can mix with the females and find ways of doing things, and I hear that the work program has lots of issues too. Do they get to leave the compound when they do that work release program and what are the conjugals like. We only get one hour at SMCI and I just want to know everything about where my baby is going. Hi Kimjj. My husband is in the pre-release unit at Parchman. It's not so bad. Its a small unit. Only about 230 guys. He'll be fine. Don't worry. If you get to the visitation center by 7:00am you can be in his arms by 9:30am and spend about 4 hours with him. The guards are nice. If you follow the rules no one will give you a hard time. For conjugal visits you spend time alone in a small room with a metal bed with a plastic matt for a mattress. There's a toliet and sink in the room and they will give you clean sheets and a towel. Not the best accomdations but most prisons don't even allow it. An hour is all you're suppose to get but sometimes the guards are really nice and allow a few extra minutes. We southern folks are friendly and I guarantee you that when you come for your first visit any of us who visit every week will be more than happy help you in any way we can. We can usually spot a new visitor. I was nervous my first time too but it was OK I met some really nice folks who helped me with the process. Good luck to you.

Ok Glamma:confused: I always fly into Jackson when I come down.Haven't checked on flights lately so unsure bout the availability,but are you saying Memphis Tenn is closer ? If so boy I'm a happy camper! whats the drive time from Memphis? really got me curious now! lol!

MEM is about 95 miles from Parchman. I think (JAN) Jackson is over 150.
Liley easier to get better fares and availability in and out of MEM as well.

The drive from Memphis Airport to the nearest reasonably sized town to Parchman takes about forty minutes! Clarksdale has a number of motels and is about twenty minutes away from MSP.
