Congratulations for seeing your son! Was this your first visit? How wonderful that you got to put your arms around him and give a big hug. How they need that good, safe, positive human contact.
Don't really know a whole lot about it. It's been 5 years ago that our lawyer told me about it. The bottom line is, the judge agrees that a short time in prison is what is needed. The 90 day shock is the wake up call for the young man. If I remember right (I'm over 40 so that's not saying much) the rest of the time would be on parole and even that could be speeded up. And when the shock and parole is done with no violations or reprimands the record is cleared (?). That's the part I'm real fuzzy on.
Is your son in for 90 days?

Well John was turned down for 90 day reconsideration awhile back but his judge said she would look at him agin in a couple months if she thought he was learning his lesson. His lawyer has been talking to the judge off and on reminding her about John. Well man this has been a good week Monday we went and saw John at Fort Madison. And last night John's lawyer called and said the Judge wants to see John Dec 31 in Polk County for a reconsideration hearing. I've heard this is a good thing if she wants to see him in person. So Im praying and his family are all Praying she reconsiders. But we know anything can happen so were not going to get real excited tell she saids he can come home are a haft way house. So please keep John and his family in your prayers that maybe they can have a great New Year!!! I hope everyone haves a Good Christmas or Happy Holidays And a Good New years .

Good luck on reconsideration, my son's was turned down.
I've heard that if a judge wants to see you about a reconsideration, it's real good news. My son had a public defender, is he the one that's suppose follow the reconsideration?

Im sorry your sons reconsiderartion was turned down John's 90 shock was too. They fired public defender when he was sentanced because public defender didn't do his job he was dumb as a box a marbles. When John was sentanced we all thought he was going to get probation because of a plea aggrement worked out with DA were he would get 2 years probation and might have a bracelet. But the Judge had a nother idea. She went agaist what the DA, probation, mediater , counselor all wanted she threw the book at him and give him 10 year's for one charge and 5 years for the other charge to run at the same time. Lets just say we were all shocked when we heard this because we were told he would be getting probation. So the public defender got fired and his mom hired a a new one that win's 95% of his casses. I hope the best for your son and you because I never thought we would be getting another chance at reconsideration I just hope and pray that I will have good news Dec31 but If I don't I've told John I would always be there for him threw all of this. Have a good weekend

My husband wants me to write him a letter that will go to the parole board, for a early out on his sentence. Can anyone tell me where to go...I have no idea how to even start the letter.
Thanks,

If you go to the forum "for offenders" and click on probation, parole ... there is a post with sample letters and an outline to help you write the letter. It is really helpful, I just used it myself. Good Luck!!!
