Does anyone know if today was a "holiday" for the prison? I tried non-stop from 12-2 to make an appointment to visit in the SHU and didnt get anything other then a busy signal! Thanks for your help.

Doubtful, even Christmas isn't a holiday in Corrections! The Corcoran SHU hotline is ALWAYS mad busy....you just have to keep on calling until you get through...good luck!

I think it is horrible that they only have one CO answering those phones and scheduling appointments, but at some point there has to be a better alternative then spending your entire lunch hour (and then some) just to make a one hour appointment. There are over 1200 inmates in that shu, and alot of family memebers and loved ones that want a chance to visit. Corcoran should have another type of system to make these appointments more efficiant. I sympathize with the lady that has to answer those phones, but sheesh, someone needs to get her an assistant.

I believe what the OP was asking, was Columbus Day a holiday, not in terms of visiting, but in terms of the staff answering the visiting appt. line? Because nobody could get through...is there anyone on PTO that was able to schedule an appt. yesterday? That is the question...

Never thought about Columbus day. LOL!! It very well could have been a State observed holiday. I know most government offices were closed, I'm sure CDCr took it an extra day off. Sorry if I misunderstood!!!

Just wondering if anyone else has trouble getting through to make an appointment? Most of the time I don't even get a busy signal or a ring, just silence. After calling for 2 days over 100 times, I got through only to find out that appointments were full! I am so frustrated!
