im a heroin addict.i believe that im adult enough to decide if i wanna alter my state of mind...the gov. should not be allowed to tell ME, a 31 year old junkie 0f 7 years that i cant do dope.if theyd legalize sure would cut down death and crime by a long shot.im to go on methadone detox by dec 20th but thats MY CHOICE,im speaking for all other addicts who have the right to choose even if it IS self destructive and you can COUNT on being locked up from time to time,i dont encourage folks to use.....but i feel its a personal choise.more violence has befallen our society to the so called "DRUG WAR"...like nancy reagan's "just say no"... what a joke...it doesnt work like that for an addict,addiction is much more complicated than that,ya know?

Well I agree you do have a choice, and I hope someday that you will choice to find a way out of drugs, but it sounds like you are chosing that with Methadone.
Yeah well Nancy Reagan certainly doesnt know how hard it is for an addict to just say no, that is almost laughable, though most of us want that for any addicts that we love, we just dont want to see them dying somewhere of an overdose or shot when a deal goes down bad or going to prison. Yes you are right, most addicts know that prison is something that will probably happen more than once if they keep taking drugs. Unfortunately it doesnt make a difference unless they do well and hold on to what they learn in a program. Complicated, yes you are right, its very complicated and not one that a bunch of legislatures can decide on unless they know how it feels to be addicted.
I really wish you all the best and hope that you keep us informed as to how your Detox goes. Be strong.

Good luck and stay strong, it sounds like you set your mind to it and that is a big step in itself, I dont think Nancy Reagan has any idea how hard that is, especially if you are deciding this on your own. I hope we hear from you when you finish with detox I would really like to know how you are doing.

i thin ki alresdy responded went to enter detox today w/o meth and theyre naking me wait till next week or so.i came home crying cos im soooo sick n tired and tho i send tom $ cand look out 4 him i could do sooo much more off drugs.......wish me luck thanx 4 your support

i am assuming you are going in on a county bed...if so then there is usually a wait due to the fact that there are limited beds...and so many people want the beds..well, if theres 10 beds & 100 people on the list, then what can ya do? i know that at the treatment facility i went to a few yrs ago...there was like 10 county beds total (in detox & upstairs together)...i became friends w/robert (he worked in detox), and he basically told me about how (at this place), when one wants in on a county bed...they have to do certain things to stay at the top of the list while WAITING for a bed..like call at certain times..if you miss a call, you get thrown to the bottom of the list...and just stuff like that.

i know your supposed 2 go into detox yesterday i believe..but what i would have recommended is that you do some NA meetings just to hold you over until you were able to get a bed. because, im sorry but complaining about how you have to wait for a bed, is just selfish cause theres other heroin adicts, alcoholics, and other drug users that were on the list before you. so make sure you get your rear to NA meetings, THAT is what will help you, get yourself a sponser...and get a buttload of 'friends' that will help you through the days when you just want to use. but crying over something you cant change..really wont get you anywhere. good luck

IM so happy for you veronica that you have made the choice to help yourself. NO one else can help you, except for yourself. I do know what your going through, not with heroin, but others drugs, its gonna be hard but stick to it. Trust me, its all gonna be for the better. I believe in you.
