My husband is in a correctional facility in Illinois. He took the test to go to school so he can get some good time, and they said that he can go to school. Now he is on the waiting list, and I was just wondering if anyone knew how long of a wait it might be untill he is actually able to go to school.

Hi EddysWife, My son also is in Illinois Prison (federal) and had applied to go to school back when he first went in(Sept) He just wrote me the other day and told me he started his classes. So maybe a month or two, not for sure.

It depends on staffing and openings, and what kind of education he is listed for. For example, it is tough to get inot ESL classes o nly because it is hard to find ESL teachers. GED is different; there may be only one GED teacher per facility.

my hubby is in florida. he wanted to take his ged but he took a test and they told him he passed so he doesn't need schooling and gave him a job instead. does this sound right to you? do they have to let you take classes if you don't have a diploma?
