Hey guys, I had a friend who was arrested at my apartment while I was away. He tried to call me once from jail, but after accepting the collect call the call ended for some reason so I never got to speak with him.

Honestly I need to hear the story from him before I commit the money to bail him out. He's a good friend, but I don't have the ability to help him out unless some friends and I dig deep.

Anybody in Lee County involved in the correctional department seems utterly pissed off or irritated that some of us don't understand the processes that go on here.

Is there any way I can obtain paperwork that tells me what he's been arrested for? Or find a way to go see him in jail. I really only know where he is right now...

This sucks.

If he is in jail you should be able to visit call up there and ask what day he can have visitors..They ususally go by last name and the day and time for those with that letter has visits..All you do is show ID...It seems all jails are different,so best to call .It's when they get to the prisons that visitor, phone, and money list is filled out by inmate...and then what happens after that... I don't know, b/c I'm still living the getting on list part...If the guards are dissing you then call the sheriff and ask him the procedure.

PS When and if you call, ask to speak to whoever's in charge of visitation. They should be able to tell you everything you need to know.

Hey there!! I am from Opelika and my ex-fiance was at Lee County for 8 months back in '06. Yeah, alot of the people you talk to are very rude...ESPECIALLY if you're calling on behalf of an inmate!!! As for the charges, I know you used to could call down there and they'd tell you what charges they were being held on and how much the bail was. I know that sounds strange but, I know when R was arrested, I didn't know what had happened (b/c he wasn't able to make a call, yet) so, I called down to booking and they gave me the charges and bail amount. The facility there is brand new...just opened sometime this year.

I know back when R was in, we had alot of problems with the phones b/c of all the construction...it wasn't unusual for phones to be down 1-5 days. I'm not sure why it cut you off when your friend tried to contact you before?!?! They should be able to call a landline and it works the same way as a typical collect call and shows on your phone bill. As for a cell, they can call that, as well...you just need to set up a pre-paid account through Global Tel Link, which is the service the Justice Center uses for the inmates calls. I'll pm you the # with instructions on how to go about setting up the acct. As for letters or money...I NEVER had to put an Inmate or bed # on the letters. Simply his name and the Justice Center's addy...that was it.

IF it's the same way it used to be, Thursday's are the day to take stuff to them...money orders, socks, shoes, underwear, and shirts. All clothing has to be white...but, you don't have to be on any list to take it to them...even the money order. Visitations do have to be approved. They are on Saturdays & Sundays (depending on the first letter of his last name) for 30 minutes. Visits are at every half hour and you have to be there 15 minutes before time in order to get your name on the list to go in. Like I said, he DOES have to have you approved for visits and they'll need to see your id when you go in to visit. I hope this has been helpful!! If you have any other questions or need help with anything else, feel free to PM me!! Like I said, all of this info is based off almost 3 years ago...soooo, some of it may have changed after they opened the new facility?!?!
