I'm curious about the restrictions and priveleges that your man has at his facility. I was talking to a girl whose husband only gets one hour a day out of his cell, can't go to canteen things are brought to him, he is in a cell to himself, can't have a job, the list went on and on. Michael is serving life and is in general pop, and follows the same rules that they do, he has a job a cellie, goes to canteen etc etc. I even asked her if he was in PC or Seg or something like that and she said that all the lifers were kept separate from general pop so I was wondering which is the most common way lifers are housed.

Fred is in a one-man cell but he's out of his cell a lot. There's a close custody wing, but I think they can mingle out in the yard with others in general population because he's got friends at a lower custody level. He can work, go to hobby, canteen, Native American activities, etc.

What it sounds like is that her husband is in seg, like you said. What state is this in?

Tony's in PC so he's very limited, but that's the nature of having to stay in the protective custody unit.

He has a cell to himself but only gets out 3 times a week, 2 yard sessions and one gym. The gym is winter only, not summer. He gets to go to commissary but time varies ion that. At the moment he's not getting the right amount of yard or gym because it's deer hunting season and a lot of the COs are out killing innocent animals (well, some things never cahnge!!) and there aren't enough staff to go round.

Lifgers aren't kept seperate to the general population where Tony is so I can't comment on that.

she said he was in michigan, I really think he must either be in deg or pc but she insists that he's not.

There are some stickies in this forum that cover some housing and ammenities/programs questions..The answers have been provided by Lifer's who's loved ones are here at PTO. There is an array of treatment/housing protocols depending on the custody level and institutional need. Some are alone, some are cellied up...

I went from 34 on an open dorm to 20 in a trailor to a single cell to my very own self with a door and a key of my own...They called that last one, Honor Housing... You got it in KY for being a good little--write up free-- prisoner, not a problem child.

Ralf is in general pop and is in a dorm with 70 other guys. He has a job tutoring inmates to take their GED, goes to the rec yard, and commisary like the others. They don't make any distinction about how much time your serving at Holmes CI. I don't know about other CI's here in Fl.

My son is serving an adjudged life term and is in SHU (Special Housing Unit) at the Disciplinary Barracks at Ft. Leavenworth. They have single cells, 4 person "rec groups", and go nowhere out of their cell without a full body cuff and two escorts. Only one rec group is allowed to be moved at any one time. Their meals are brought to them. They are allowed out 2 and 1/2 hours a day, for showers and rec. I think they have one hour a week in the library. They are limited to 4 calls per month and visitation (non-contact) must be scheduled 30 days in advance by the inmate. They work on a point system and you lose points for time served (1 every 3 months served without a write-up). It is possible to have more points deducted but it's a discretionary decision by the guard commander or the Commandant. He has to lose 30 some-odd points before he's eligible for gen pop. He estimates a year before that happens. He can take CLEP tests at no expense (until his discharge goes through) and after that he has to pay or obtain his own education program, but can't incur debt.

I don't know how much different from federal or state facilities USDB is, but from your postings it sounds quite different.

My husband has double life and he's in general pop. He's in a dorm with 80+ guys. Goes to rec, gym and commisary.

I think it just depends where you are. Sounds like her guy's in seg.

Lifers here in Ne are housed in Gen pop. Mine works a good paying job and has the same rights as the rest of the pop.

In canada, lifers have all the same privleges as other inmates except that lifers have do the first 1/3 of there sentence in a maximum security facilty mandatory !! Also as long as they are not in seg or PC then they have full run of the prison.
Administrative Segregartion- they are in there own cell, still have there own tv, stereo, playstation property unless it is taken away for disciplinary reasons, they have 4 , 30 minute calls a week, open visits (unless taken away for a punishmnet) an hour for yard a day , other then that 23 hour lock up.

Protective custody- is a high maintence range and they are locked up 18 hours a day, still have yard on a daily basis and canteen once a week but they have a 5 out policy. Only 5 guys out on the range at a time so they have morning, afternoon and evening shifts they follow.

This is all just for max facilities. My loved one has not made it down to medium yet as he has to wait till March for a transfer and he has to stay charge free so he is sitting in the hole doing his own time to stay out of trouble because he wants to get down to medium really bad.

Just my 2cents on the subject,
Take care,
Peace,
Jill

I know that my man is in his cell 23 hours a day, and on Monday and Thursday he goes to the yard for one hour, also he gets 2 showers a week. I guess it is different everywhere...
