View Full Version : How many of you would like to watch the 2004 PTO conference live?

This is an exploratory post.. I am trying to find out the interest levels in having a Live Video & Audio stream broadcasted from the 2004 PTO Conference to those who are unable to make it in person.

What this would basically do is give all of you a video window and audio feed in REAL TIME, while the conference is going on. :)

My second question, for those of you who would be interested in this, are you willing to help pay for it? The cost that I am getting just for the use of a high speed line is $250-$350.00 for the day.. Yeah, Robbery! But that is the going rate because these are conference rooms and they are used to corporations footing the bills. I tried to negotiate a cheaper rate last year but they hire an outside company (what BS) to handle the T-1 lines they use, and they won't budge. Most likely it will be the same in this situation.

Anyhow, I figure if there are enough people who are interested in watching the conference live, we might be able to cover this expense, and the other video setup fees. I'm still exploring what these are.

We are continuing to build our guest speaker roster and hopefully will have something concrete for everyone within a month.
As it stands, Richard Owen from Telenet / Prison Calls Online will be speaking and answering everything anyone ever wanted to know about Prison Calling.
Author of "How to Do Good After Prison" and "How to Love and Inspire Your Man After Prison",
Michael Jackson from www.jointfx.com will be back again for the 2004 Conference.

We will be adding more names soon!

Let me know what you think about the live audio & video feeds, and if you would be willing to donate a few dollars to help cover this cost.

Thanks!
David (Fed-X)

PS - I know this belongs in the conference forum, but for obvious reasons, it is starting out in the Lounge and will be moved in a few days to its proper place. ;)

I haven't signed anything in stone, because I'm still unsure if I'm gonna be able to make it to the conference.
If I do, it'll probably turn into a small vacation, I'll rent my own room nearby for the weekend, etc, etc....

But....
Yes, there's always a but.... :)

If I can't make it, I'd be more than happy to donate some money to be able to see it!

David - awesome idea!!!! Are you looking for just any $ donation or are you looking at a minimum? I understand the purpose of a donation is to give what you can afford and I suspect that a lot of us can't commit to much before Christmas but I would certainly - even though I'd have to switch to US funds - wouldn't have a problem giving in the New Year. Maybe also give us a sense of what the cutoff date would be to receive donations.

I really hope that you will seriously think of having a Conference in Canada, especially Alberta - I'd definitely be on the organizing committee.

Yes David, I'd be willing to donate a few dollars, no problem. I think it'a a wonderful opportunity for ones like us that can't make it to the conference to still feel apart of. My prayers and best wishes go out to all of you that are making this 2004 PTO Conference happen. It's because of people like you and your hard work that makes our time go by a little bit faster. Much love and aloha to all of you for all your support.

I would love to be there and cant. I dont know that my computer will handle a live feed very well, but what about audio if nothing else. Would that be easy enough to do without having to hire an outside company. I dont know about anyone else, but I would rather have that then nothing at all. I also think for those of us who cant afford much this would be a inexpensive way to go

I'm here in Washington - no way I can make it to Fl, I just started a new job, so I will have some money coming in and would love to donate money to get access - we could get all our PTO people here in WA to have PTO parties and watch! Count me in.

I don't think we are going to be able to pull off streaming video this year but the audio may be do-able. I am working on this now.

Do you know anyone that has a digital video camera, who could record the conferance, then you can upload it to the webpage for download by members who couldnt be there, in mpeg or a avi formal?
I know this is a slow download for those members on modem, not cable, but I would be more than willing to burn it to CD for those members and send it on. I know that we will get to see it when it is over, but we still dont get to miss out.
Members like myself that are outside the US might miss it anyway, even if it was live video from the time differance.
This is just a suggestion. I hope someone has a digital camera, else we will be donating for one of those for PTO so us people that cant make it will always be up to date.
Next year, you can have the conferance in Australia, cause we will be filling up that forum :)..... I shouldnt suggest that cause maybe you would all make me pay.

Ah David, I'm sorry I was getting excited about seeing all of you again even if it was just on a screen. I'll be glad to donate if you still think you can pull it off. Well even if you can't I'll donate. Just take plenty of pictures and put names with the pictures.

I really am sorry I won't be able to make it this year. Last year sucked, hoping this year will be better. You all be careful and have fun.
Willow
PS Jodygirl hey if you really think you might make it pm me. I still may have a slim, very slim chance
