When my son was sent to his first prison in AZ. ,People would ask me where he was and when I say prison they would get that look (oo)! So when he was in Tucson, use to be tent city, I would say he was away at summer camp, then he move to Yuma, and there he was at finshing school, and now Fort Grant, why he has joined the army! But I am very proud of him, he now has his high School Deploma, GED,. He grauaded top of his class, took some other class also, and he hasn't been in any trouble for over a year, and best of all he is getting out in March!! And some how I know in my heart he will be a better person for all this.

It's a sad fact that most citizens in Arizona don't know how corrupt the whole prison and justice is. While most other states are reducing their prison populations, Arizona is putting people away for longer sentances. I don't hesitate when people ask where my fiance is. I say she is in a Arizona prison and tell them how unfair the justice and prison system is. People have to know the truth.

But do you really thiink that anyone listens? Usually I feel like rather than believe that the system is broken, they would rather judge me, that I made a bad choice of husbands. I have pretty much stopped talking about it after 2 years. He has 4 years still to go. Every day he faces the petty asshole guards, and every day he reaffirms to do whatever it takes to get out as soon as he can. Peopledon't believe me when I tell them that we have no parole. That he has to serve 85%. Sure, I'm angry. I just don't know what to do to try to change it.

Grrrrrrr!!!

My son got 51/2 years. Six months of it was for flooding county jail, and a extra six months for escape. He is sopose to get out this march, but they won't start his paper work. I know in some Az prisons they have a program called shock, that if they can get through, you can cut your time in half.

You're right that certain people won't listen (mostly Retirees and snowbirds) but the working people of Arizona know somethings wrong when more money goes to prisons than education. Every time your loved one has a real greivance, write the assitant warden and copy both the warden and the director to let them know what's going on. Every time you are not treated with respect from someone in ADC write the same people. Don't let the asshole correction officers (not all of them, there are some good ones) get away with it!
