Has anyone any experience of exoneration from DR, with the help of the Innocence project, and the (IMO) wonderful Barry Scheck?
Many thanks, in advance.

Many thanks, in advance. tweedybird 09-17-2008, 06:18 PM I sure don't have any personal experience but I've read many stories about them. The Texas Innocence Project has been in the news quite a bit recently, and have gotten a number of inmates exonerated. Under employment, I talked about going to a large new library and finding a huge resource book on ex inmates and employment. The other book I got out is "The Wrong Man" by Stanley Cohen. It discusses the usual areas of error in death penalty convictions, and then gives one example after the other of exonerations of individuals. Often the Innocence Projects in each state and other programs ( usually connected with law schools) take cases easily decided with DNA evidence. It is much harder to prove that a witness identified the wrong person. Other categories of reasons for the wrong person being convicted are corrupt practices and misconduct, false confessions, the snitch system, and junk science. JJS811 09-18-2008, 02:06 AM Many thanks for that Tweedybird, much of what you have said I knew already. But there were other bits I didn't know. All information on this is much appreciated. I will certainly look out for Stanley Cohens book. viceb 04-13-2009, 08:20 PM thank god for groups like the innoscence project. KDavis 04-20-2009, 09:42 AM Alaska's Innocence Project is about to retry their first case, but we have been hearing this for a year or two now. irshnrse 04-21-2009, 10:15 PM I give money to the Innocence Project. What a wonderful service. I get their mailings and they send their print mailings to my BIL on DR. msearp99 04-24-2009, 09:34 PM We have an IP in Mississippi and 2 persons exonerated this past year are now seeking damages against the past State employed Medical Examiner for his false testimony! Its sweet to watch it all come down the pipe.. The IP effort nationally is a blessing to many and a string of hope for freedom for many others. Its some inmates only hope. The Mississippi IP has had an application for a friend of mine since Nov 07 with NO activity. We are still hopeful her case will be reviewed. The IP office is in Oxford MS, has about 4 persons helping and it's volunteer work. DONATE to IP if you can in your state or at the National level ! All IP Needs our support. irshnrse 04-24-2009, 09:50 PM They have worked on OK cases, as well. I think they are spectacular! You should go to www.innocenceproject.org and look around JJS. It is amazing. JJS811 04-25-2009, 04:29 AM I have read many cases where the IP have been involved and I thank God they are there. saracmc 04-25-2009, 01:18 PM We have an IP in Mississippi and 2 persons exonerated this past year are now seeking damages against the past State employed Medical Examiner for his false testimony! A friend of mine in MS is waiting to hear from IP MS, too. I imagine that they're pretty swamped with applications. I'm hoping that the March '09 DNA statute in MS will help...
