Hay any body out there been to Fort Grant, Safford,AZ for a visit? I am coming from out of state and have been told that I can have special visits. I am trying to be able to go in on Christmas, my son is sopost to be getting the paper work done. I haven't been there yet and I don't want to run into any trouble, I just want to visit my son!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to PTO !!! I don't have anyone at Fort Grant, but someone who does should be along soon. Have you looked on the AZDOC website ?? They should have some info there ?

I've been to Fort Grant many times. As far as visitation goes, it was alwyas one of my favorites (as crazy as that may sound...having a favorite prison).

The visitation yard is enormous, both inside & out. And the rules as far as hugging/touching/kissing were very relaxed. But, I suppose it depends on the CO's on duty.

Dress code is the same as with other prisons. No blue denim, no tan/brown clothing of any type. No shirts lower than the collar-bone (although, I have gotten away with that). No spandex, skirts have to be knee length. I can't think of anything else off-hand.

Fort Grant is one of the nicer prisons I've been to. There was one thing different though. Both times I have gone they have had dogs go through visitors cars. One time my son wore black jeans and we were turned away. We had to go into Safford, quite a ways away to buy him some pants. They also have food visits there a few times a year and the date depends on the last name of the one you're visiting.

I am going to be visiting the Fed Woman's facility north of Phoenix in February for the first time. Has anyone been there that might have some information for me? I am immediate family so will there be a waiting time for me to be approved? Anything else I should know?
