I could not spend another sleepless night. I have tryed calling the 24 hotline & the unit, off & on for the past two days. So I called KFDM channel 6 news out of Beaumont. I asked the news room if Hwy 69/287 in the Nederland area had been flooded. He said, NO that the levee in Port Arthur has kept the salt water out of that area. He did say that the area received approx. 10" of rain, but no flooding. He said that Bridge City, parts of orange and parts of beaumont has flooding. I was so happy to hear this good news that I forgot to ask anything else.

I have been worried about my nephew also who is at Beaumont FCI Low. I am so glad you found out the good news and don't have to worry so much about your son. Hopefully they will be able to call home in a couple of days. I will keep you and your son in my prayers.

I feel SO much better this morning! I was having a hard time coping with the thought of all those men with 3 ft of water in their pods-cells etc.. ! Gist unit does not get to make phone calls! Does some of the other units get to make phone calls? Gist is where my son has been for over a year & has never been to another unit, well except Holiday during orientation. They are housed in a "POD" where the inmate stays in a large room with up to 50 other prisoners. I can not even imagine living with 30/50 different personalities & no privacy within the same 4 walls 24/7. It is my understanding that Gist is a transfer unit, maybe not all units are like this. My hope for this thread was to help others with loved one in this areas, who had not heard anything, like myself.

bewilderedmom.......just read your post, and the others before yours. i'm glad to know you are relieved somewhat. i will be relieved when i hear from my son, until then, i remain skeptical. news coming from a news station has to be the truth, not distorted news like what we get from the guards at jails and other facilities. i'm glad for you, bless you and yours. ;)

I have been frantically searching for any news of the Gist Unit since last Saturday morning & just stumbled on this website today. It has been an answer to prayers. I appreciate you sharing the information. I will definitely sleep better tonight. I will feel even better when I can get to Beaumont to see him for myself.
