I have a new pen pal in the Texas prison system. I wrote him for the first time today! SMILE! If I am asked to come for a visit what should I expect? I have visited a man in Parchman, Mississippi before, but don't know about Texas visitation, phone calls etc..... Any information would be greatly appreciated.

well, about the phone calls, they really stink, :) they only get one phone call every 90 days, the visitations vary on each unit.

Visits in texas are not bad 2 hrs every weekend on sat or sun only.. If you are 300 miles away you can get special visits set up..

My son is in New Boston, Texas and yeah i dont hear from him via phone much the visits are 2 hours and longer if further away like 300 miles or so they are very strict when they want to be it depends on who or what mood the gaurds are in sometimes you can wear sandals sometimes you can't i usually go prepared these days you never know what mood they are going to be in. what i dislike the most is when i have to change my shoes or clothes and i see someone else wearing open toe shoes or something to that matter and all they have to say is it just depends on who was up front when you came in.. oh well i just prepare myself when i go i never know what they'll think of next....

If you're 300 miles or more away, what kind of special privileges?

My son is still in a private facility, and will be there for a while from what I hear. From there. he will go to a diagnostic unit and stay for a while, and then he is shipped off somewhere. How long will it be before he contacts us, or we can visit? I know this may sound stupid, but are they moved around during the holidays (Thanksgiving or Christmas)?

i totally understand about the changing of clothes. I hate having to do that.. It just sucks.. They are so different.. They need one set of rules and everyone should be on a standard. But the problem is everyone has there own perception.. That is where it gets messed up..:(

Don't you just love the visitiing or any other "rules". They have a tendency to change day to day, hour to hour or minute to minute. You just gotta love it.
