"David,

I would definitely like to talk to your girlfriend about Dublin. I have started hearing back from my friend.. and the place sounds like it isn't all that bad -- compared to other facilities -- but, I would still appreciate talking with someone who has been there. I'd like to know what the overall feel is inside. How do inmates treat each other.. and how do guards treat the inmates. What was your girlfriend's experience and how was she treated?

I am very much concerned, also, about what to expect when I go there. I am planning on flying out next month, after my paperwork goes through. But, I don't know what to expect with the visit. Will we be limited to just ONE visit? Or can I go several days in a row? What is the visiting area like--are there opportunities for private discussions... or is everything open and watched over by the guards?

Any information about Dublin and it's policies that you can give me would make me happy. Thanks again for replying.

Jenny"

Jenny,
I'm not sure about your questions. Are you visiting someone there or are you going to prison yourself? I'll just give you an overview either way. I was at the camp there but they also have a FCI to but I don't really know their policies. Anyways the camp visiting is really okay. They have a nice outside area with a playground for the kids. There are soda & snack machines so bring lots of change. That is a real treat to someone in prison to get to buy something different for a change! They only have one guard there and they don't constantly watch you all the time so you do have some alone time. There are games and cards to play if that is your thing. You must have your id card to get in and you have to fill out a paper with some info about yourself. No shorts are allowed and no short skirts or dresses either. You are able to visit all three days if you want to and you can stay the whole day each time.Another thing is that you can take pictures. But don't bring a camera the prison will provide a photographer and your friend has to buy tickets ahead of time. Don't stess-out about it because its really going to be alright.
The guards are all different! Each one is going to treat you how they are feeling that day! If you stay out of their way they won't mess with you. I never was buddy buddy with any of they but some of the girls are. Overall they treated me okay. One thing about prison is that the rules change every shift.
The environment in prison is very diverse! There is a little bit of everything found in prison! I mostly stayed to myself and had a few friends but some of the girls were involved with everything. The worst thing about prison is the bordeom and being away from your loved ones! Your friend should be just fine. My experience wasn't scary and I never felt threatened but I'm just glad it's over and done with!
Just be there to support your friend and try not to worry because she will make it through just like everyone else! Take care and enjoy your visit! Laurie

I think when someone has a good friend on the outside they can handle the prison life a little better?
