View Full Version : Ike info needed
Tinare 09-10-2008, 09:24 AM Does anyone have any info yet on Ike? My husband was just moved to Darrington in Rosharon (about an hour from Galveston) yesterday. I called Darrington and they said to call back Friday. Umm...isn't the hurricane supposed to be there by then?! Any news on if the prisons along the coast will be evacuated?
Thanks.:o
Unbroken 09-10-2008, 10:40 AM Thats Brazoria County, now under mandatory evacuation for critical care patients and voluntary evac. for the general public...that was as of a few hours ago. I'm watching the storms landfall computer forecast models over at stormpulse.com
I wouldn't venture to far towards the coast this weekend, just as a precaution.
Peace, Dan
Michelep68 09-10-2008, 12:47 PM This was posted at 10:46 AM in the Houston Chronicle:
State prison officials early today ordered evacuation of prisons that are considered vulnerable to Hurricane Ike if the storm should strike the Texas coast in their areas.
Twelve dialysis patients were bused from the Carol Young Unit in Dickinson, in Galveston County, to the Estelle Unit near Huntsville, said prisons spokesman Jason Clark.
More than 1,300 inmates from Cuero's medium-security Stevenson Unit in South Texas were moved to prisons in Beeville and Kenedy, and 597 were moved from the Glossbrenner Unit for felony substance abusers in San Diego, also in South Texas, to a lockup in Dilley.
Clark said prison officials will continue to monitor Ike's movements throughout the day and more relocations may be ordered.

i just called leblanc and was told so far no evacuation is scheduled but to call the hot-line for later info. that number is 936-437-6127. leblanc was evacuated to livinsgton so i'm guessing that is where they would go this time.
Tinare 09-10-2008, 05:00 PM They are posting the Unit evacutations on the TDC website and you CAN call the hurricane line but all they really tell you is they're monitoring the storm and posting evacuations on the website.
This is the latest post to the TDC website.
My husband is in Darrington only two hours from Cuero which has already evacuated but so far no plan to evacuate. :(

Michelep68 09-10-2008, 08:33 PM I just heard from a friend in Houston and he said there is a mandatory evacuation for Brazoria County at 8:00 a.m. This would be the units in Rosharon.
MelissaTx 09-10-2008, 09:22 PM If anyone hears anything about Liberty Co Jail evacuating could you please post it. I was planning a trip down there (a 2 1/2 hr drive) next wk. But if they to move the inmates back to east Texas that would be great! Thanks
ReggiesLady 09-10-2008, 09:33 PM Melissa-Be aware that most of the time that they move inmates they don't allow visitation (if that is what you were referring to). So even if they moved him next door to you, you probably wouldn't be able to visit. Just wanted to give you a heads up. Take care.
MelissaTx 09-10-2008, 11:30 PM Thanks. If he were to be moved it would be to a county jail. The last time he was moved for court I was able to visit 2xs in 4days. Knowing that jail they wont move anyone.
ReggiesLady 09-11-2008, 05:51 AM Gotcha. I missed the county jail part. Hope all turns out well! Take care and be safe!
Tinare 09-11-2008, 02:21 PM Somebody please tell me what the logic is behind this.
They evacuate the Terrell unit in Rosharon but not the Darrington unit in the same city?
I'm so frusterated.

Tinare 09-11-2008, 04:38 PM Just an FYI. I called Darrington and they are not evacuating although the Terrell unit did. They said there facility can withstand the hurricane. I guess we will wait and see.
Please pray my husband and all others there.
Calpurnia 09-12-2008, 08:01 AM Darrington is an older brick building and should come through Ike with little damage if any. It's also over 30 miles from the coast so there should be no flooding and as it's on the left side of the hurricane, it will not be as badly hit as those areas to the right of the path. I rode out Katrina in an old brick building in the French Quarter and while it is a nerve wracking thing, the building itself should be fine and the guys should be safe. I fret more for the aftermath if they are left without power for any amount of time.
wfrules 09-12-2008, 10:49 AM I also called the hotline. My dad is in Ramsey and I wondered the same thing. The woman told me that the buildings for the other two units (Ramsey and Darington) were built to be able to out last the hurricane. Or some other nonsense like that. So I am hoping they don't have any flooding or power outage problems. The woman also told me that extra emergency personnel were stationed at those units that are in the path of the hurricane but not being evacuated. So I guess we will wait and see. Unfortunately that's all we are able to do.

My husband is in the Terrell Unit and was evacuated. We also have a friend on the Darrington Unit that was not evacuated. When I called the hotline I asked why my husband's unit was evacuated and the others were not and the response I got was that the other units were reinforced structures that could with stand the hurricane force winds. They also let me know not to worry that they had back up generators in case of power outages and extra C.O.'s on duty for the inmates safety. I have faith in the Lord that everyone will be alright. I hope this information helps and puts some of you to ease. Have a Blessed Day!!!!
Jay's Joy 09-12-2008, 04:59 PM Just about every Texas Unit is somehow going to be effected by IKE.... So what will this do to visitation next week? I know that the ones that are moved may not get a visit (which is very stupid to me, that's when love ones really need to them them!) But, I want to know will it effect those that aren't moved... the units that they are house inmates that are evacuated.... My husband is not being moved, he's in Wynn... will I be able to see him next week?
