I’m sure you have been watching what was happening in New Orleans. The Mayor of New Orleans I really believe has gone off the deep end. Now I know there has been looting going on but o where near what happen like last time. When he said that anyone f:(ound looting was going directly to Angola State Prison. Well, I am not a lawyer but if I were I would have gone to Federal Court to “squash” the order. There is such thing as do process. I’m not defending the bad guys / girls but I think there is such thing as the rule of law.

The mayor of New Orleans actually did not say Angola. The mayor of Slidell did. Angolaa inmates were reportedly moved to another prison. I think that it was just a fear tactic but do know that they are prosecuting looters to the fullest and they will probably wind up in Angola.

St. Bernard Parish Sheriff Jack Stephens said his decision to bus any looters to the state penitentiary at Angola appears to be deterring post-evacuation crime.

As far as I know they didn't move them out of Angola. At least my friend didn't say anything about it. He did say they were without power for at least 2 days (as of the day he last wrote).

When Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005, a lot of prisoners were stuck in Orleans County Jail and thought they were going to die. Can you imagine being stuck in jail during something like that?

Finally, Warden Cain from Angola and some of his men came and rescued them and took them to Angola as a humanitarian act to save their lives. Not sure how long they stayed there or where they went after that. (This was profiled on the MSNBC TV series "Lockup" recently.)

Allot of innocent people were killed because of looting. Some people were murdered for no reason. Greed was the cause of their death. These looters had no regard for other human beings lives and for that they should be punished. That's just how I feel about the situation.

And then there were all those elderly people in that nursing home that died because all of the staff went off and abandoned them.

rvlm: Those are the people they should be talking about punishing. Though Angola would still be a bot to harsh.

As someone said Lousiana is one of the most beautiful states with the ugliest laws....poverty breed crime. Most only make 7.00 per hour here.

Yes Lousiana is a beautiful state I consider it my 2nd home! My now husband and his daughter moved here permanently after Katrina. He was doing a temp job here and his daughter was staying with his parents. They lived in between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, but when the crime rate spiked in their area he decided it was time to get goin. So now they are honorary Okies.. lol.

And yes some of the pay is minimal, but the housing is outrageous!! A home here that may be $70,000 is at least $125,000 down there. And I have noticed when I have bought groceries or as my husband says make groceries their is a noticable difference in price! We have considered numerous times moving down there because it is so beautiful and I love it there especially the food, but for now I have a Cajun cookbook, an iron pot (which when I cook in it my neighbors stare I think they think Im cooking drugs lol) and I got some swamp pop, my community coffee and tea and for now that will have to due!

wow down unda we never heard anything re nursing home deaths etc. Hearing those "after Katrina" reminds me of "after Tracy" down unders' 1970's Katastrophy here there was looting dogs were shot as far as i know no people!! They say 70 odd died but unofficially i do belevie its closer to 750 odd, most from the cyclone ( opposite cousin of a hurricane!!) Men dressed up as women to be evacuated first I remeber we were the last to be evacuated 5 days after christmas 1974..
