Hello, here I am again, new to the work release issues. I just had learned some of the rules and regulations of Kilby, and my son was moved to Atmore/JoDavis/workrelease, on Monday, Thank God!

My son has written me already and told me some about the mail and visits ect... but he didn't tell me about phone usage and the company they use.

When he called me on Monday to let me know he had been moved, the call came through via 1800collect. Does that facility use the same phone system as Kilby or are they allowed to use 1800collect all the time. Please help.

I need to know so I can try and get a local phone number issued, since I am in Mississippi.

Thank you for your help. And if anyone else has family or a friend there please talk to me.

Bless you all,

Hi and welcome. I have a friend at Atmore CWC and from what I know, they use Global-telink as all the state prisons do. My friends mom said when it shows up on caller id that it is just another telephone number but the same company. I hope I have been some help.

I believe they all use global-tel, I think maybe the rates are different if they have to call collect out of state. Maybe someone will drop in and let you know more but I think they add extra charges for state taxes on the calls. Hope it isn't too much. It's legal robbery like it is. Everyone needs that family connection while incarcerated just to stay sane.

Thank you both for replying with the info. I wasn't sure about the phone company they used, since it showed up 1800collect. My son was in Kilby for almost a month and yes the charges are ridiculous and robbery! It cost me 23.00 for a fifteen minute call because I am in Mississippi.
He was in Morgan Co. Al. jail for a while and it was also cost that much unless I prepaid through the service they used and then it would cost 10.50 a call.

There should be a law against charging that much for a simple phone call. My opinion is; yes our friends and loved ones are incarcerated, but, we should not have to pay too. We already suffer from the fact they are in prison or jail. Money is the bottom line. That is all they care about. Lets make the family suffer too or lets cut them off from their family and friends. That is not reform! The whole system. in my opinion, stinks!

You get 10, 15, 20 years for drugs or violate your probation and go to prison, but for murder, you will probably get out in 3-5, if! you serve at all.

Does that make sence? Not to me it doesn't and I wish to God, I had pursued Criminal Justice a long time ago. Our laws need to be Changed!

Oh well, off my rant now.

Thanks for the information.
