View Full Version : Holman Evacuated to Bullock - Bullock Visitation Canceled Sunday 8/31 kathryn42 08-30-2008, 07:09 AM does anyone know if they are going to evacuate holman facility due to the hurricane..anyone with information it would be greatly appreciated ~Dedicated~ 08-30-2008, 02:01 PM Hello all! I just got back from visiting my husband. He said they have canceled visits at Bullock because they are moving inmates from Mobile because of the hurricane. They will not be able to use the visitation room because thats where they will stay. I would suggest before driving to any facility tomorrow, call first and make sure they are still having visits. sweetnina 08-31-2008, 06:56 AM My man called me yesterday, he is on death row at Holman and he didnt know anything about evacuation. Lysbeth 08-31-2008, 01:39 PM My man called me yesterday, he is on death row at Holman and he didnt know anything about evacuation. I am worried now - please keep us updated. Normally he would call again today but who nows... All right. Here's my assumption on this, but keep in mind this is only a guess on my part. My inmate loved one questioned what about the Death Row men when I told him about the evacuation of Holman men to Bullock. It is very possible that they evacuated everyone BUT the Death Row inmates to elsewhere because there are really only two other facilities in Alabama that could even possibly house DR inmates, and to evacuate all the DR inmates probably would have been a huge effort due to all the security needs, etc. It may be that they are NOT evacuating the DR guys, or maybe they will send them to St Clair or Donaldson. So don't let this alarm you too much if they are not evacuating DR. It was VERY unusual for ADOC to evacuate Holman inmates at all, but Holman is built to withstand hurricanes, and it could be that by evacuating the large number of OTHER inmates, they can now keep the DR inmates safe and care for them properly in the event of the hurricane there AT Holman, whereas if all the other inmates had still been there it would be difficult to watch and take care of everyone and keep them safe. sweetnina 08-31-2008, 02:08 PM Thank you...but thats not very reassuring. Hopefully Gustav wont hit the Mobile coast. I still hope to get a call today then I will keep you updated about the death row guys. Lysbeth 08-31-2008, 02:55 PM Please do, any updates you get of any kind are appreciated. We'll keep your inmate and those around him in thoughts and prayers. I've been reading the news the last hour or so and there has been so much preparation this time around and a lot of doing things that are maybe "too" much preparation, but there's probably no such thing as too much and hopefully we won't see the kind of disastrous results we saw after Katrina... sweetnina 08-31-2008, 03:45 PM My Baby just called. Death row wont be evacuated. They are just going to be shaked down and then will go on lockdown for a few days. They definitely stay. I am much more worried now, even if he tried to calm me down... Suthrndreamgirl 09-01-2008, 11:26 PM I haven't heard anything about evacuating....but I'm currently having to rely on snail mail for any information directly from my guy. ??????? They weren't evacuated before/during the last hurricane (Which of course was MUCH worse!). I know it took them a long time to fix the weakened outter fences afterwards. I would think evacuating would be a MAJOR feat. Even with regular transfers....it's all kept on the down low....due to the possiblity of a high jacking/ambush escape attempt. I'm always worried about my guy (& the safety & well being of other inmates)...but I really doubt the State would take the risk of moving them. I believe they'd rather face the liability of the outcome of not moving them due to storms. Lysbeth 09-01-2008, 11:32 PM Well, as most probably know the hurricane mostly missed Alabama and mainly hit Mississippi and Louisiana instead, with the worst in Louisiana. It's still good that they evacuated any they did though, things could have been a lot worse. There's probably going to be some storm and tornado action (and was in Mississippi today) in Alabama but I think all our inmates are pretty much in the clear for the most part. If they didn't already start moving people back today I'm sure they probably will tomorrow or Tuesday. |
