View Full Version : Gustav & Plain state jail Papanick-7 08-30-2008, 10:00 AM My daughter is in Plain state jail and I am wondering what precautions are being taken for the catorgory 4 Gustav hurricane, that is headed right for the jail? Angelbaby8599 08-30-2008, 09:17 PM The only predictable thing with a hurricane is the rain and wind. How strongly the jail was constructed will play a big role. The problem is that a Cat 4 is the 2nd worst on the scale and that is a constant hammering of winds that are over 100 mph. Another problem is all of the rain. Is the jail in a low lying area? When Fay hit FL it was just a tropical storm but it stalled and the rain poured and poured and my county was flooded worse than I ever remember it being. A Cat 4 is nothing to mess around with! I don't know but I'm sure if need be evacuations will be done. No matter how well the jail was constructed hurricanes can produce tornados and tornados will take down anything in their path. I'm sorry I couldn't be a little more positive for you but I'm try to keep it real for you. I'll keep your daughter in my prayers. Best of luck to you! :grouphug: js223 08-30-2008, 09:54 PM I visited my daughter at Plane today and she said they were talking about evacuating. As I was leaving a guard told me that they are seriously considering it. I hope they weren't just jerking my chains and don't hesitate to evacuate if need be. I do notice their visitation is cancelled for Sunday now. TDC has a hotline number you can call and ask about your loved one's unit. It is 936-437-6127. I called and was told that Plane State Jail will eventually be evacuated. They just aren't sure when. Hope this helps some. PRAYERS jeannie jruddell47 08-30-2008, 11:08 PM I was going to say that my grandson's mom and his dad, who he hasn't seen in about 3 yrs went to visit at Coffield and they were turned away. Said they were bringing in evacuee's. She wondered why no one told them before they got there. I had no explaination. Did anyone try to visit their loved ones and get turned away. She was so upset because his dad finally decided he would go see him and then that happened. Just thought I would add my two cents worth for today. Mark's Granny TXLAXDAD 08-31-2008, 01:21 AM You can get cancellation info on the TDCJ website. Plus NEVER assume that visitation is going to happen every weekend. Always call the unit Friday before the visit to make sure they are not on lockdown. JaycieDnTejas 09-02-2008, 04:44 PM I thought the higher the Hurricane Category number (2, 3, 4, 5) the worse the storm is. No? Lysbeth 09-03-2008, 04:18 PM Yep. Category 5 is the worst and most severe. |
