Here I go hoging up all the topics again...
I received a letter from my son, who states he is only allowed out of his cell 5 minutes 3 x week for a shower. He states the water is bitter freezing cold and his skin is blue from the cold.... He says he has drank ice water warmer than the shower.. Is there hot water in Michigan? Or, is he exaggerating?

probably because he is intake. my friend spent 60 days in intake (it's only supposed to be a couple of weeks), during that time he did not have soap, shampoo or toothpaste. they didn't supply it and there was no commissary in intake. for some reason intake seems very minimal on basic necessities.hopefully your son will be out of intake soon.

Where my husband is, hot water is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Basically, he gets up around 3AM, when the showers are turned on in order to get any hot water. When he was at the classification center he said the same thing - sometimes they would turn off the hot water as a form of punishment.

Maybe it is just a coincidence that when they let them out for showers it just happens to be cold... ???
Maybe they have to earn hot water?

Some of the people "guarding" inmates are not the most noble. That's not to say all are bad - my brother is a former CO, so I take it personal when they are all lumped into one category. Just keep your fingers crossed that he will be moved soon.

I agree that some CO's are not noble but I am thankful to the ones my son had contact with initially. They talked to him and explained things to him about the intake/reception and told him how to get through it all... I am grateful to them for being kind to him.

Everything in prison is designed to be uncomfortable, so don't expect luxuries like hot water. My husband is allowed exactly 10 minutes for a shower, starting from the time he leaves his cell. If he goes any longer than that he will get a ticket and has gotten a ticket before for that, for staying in the shower a minute too long. The officers are right there timing everybody, believe me! Where my husband is they only get to take showers on certain days at certain times.

Its crazy thats for sure... I will appreciate my showers now thats for sure.
