I've heard many different stories and we still haven't decided if trying to get a (fairly cheap) lawyer is better than the public defendant he's got. Some people say that a lawyer might not now how the system works or what the different judges are like as opposed to a good public defendant who's been around a long time.

Does anyone have any good advice? And more importantly, does anyone know of a good, cheap lawyer?

His charges are 4 of resisting arrest (he fought the police) and 1 of breaking a restraining order. I was told by his PDef. that the other 3 charges were probably not going to stick.

Help!

There are web site out there for lawyer referrel. However, your ideal for a cheep lawyer should not be the first item.

You sholul ask if the attorney knows the Judge and the DA in the division he is in.

Ask if he knows about alternative sentensing. Do your homework.

Ask a lot of questions before you hire an attorney. IT IS HIS LIFE THAT the attorney is dealing with.

I qot an lawyer would worked on my case and got me a good outcome.
It could have gone to federal but stayed local

Hope this helps you out.

How do you feel about the public defender? If he seems to be working for your inmate, you might want to go with him for a while. It is hard to know if they will turn and go with the DA though. Hiring an attorney is a crap shoot in my opinion, I spent a lot of money - hired two different ones, and don't feel either of them did a good job. I interviewed many - but it is so hard to tell. If you hire one, David has good advice.

My husband and I got him a lawyer and he did wonders for us!! My husband was looking at a 3rd strike (25 years to life for weed) and he got 1 year in county. The lawyer we hired know how the court worked where my husband was going and it worked out in our benifit. If you want some info PM me and I will give it to you.
