I just found out that I'm approved to visit my husband. He's in unit 25. I'm scared, nervous and excited all in one. :o Since this is my first time to visit what should I expect? Should I arrive early? How long does it take to process in? I read the rules as far as dress code goes but are there any things I should watch out for that aren't specifically stated? I just don't want to make any mistakes and I want things to go as smooth as possible for both of us. Any info would be so appreciated.

Sometimes sandles are allowed sometimes not. Always keep an extre pair of shoes in the car. Also possibly a t-shirt if your shirt is unacceptable.
You do not park on the prison grounds at MSP so you can get away with this. Keep all extra belongings locked in your trunk.
No jewelry - I think a wedding band and religious necklace is ok.
Prescription eyewear only
Make sure to have comfortable clothes. Dress for the weather (hot untill october or novemeber and freezing ass cold november to march). Also make sure you have no extra cash on you unless you are able to get snack bags at the main gate. If so take exact change only.
If you need to take medications then call visitation department for guidelines on carrying your meds with you.

This is wonderful news for you! As a visitor, I wear no jewelry whatsoever, ensure that I have a long sleeved jacked or sweater over whatever I may be wearing, and no open toed footwear. It really is a good idea to have a change of clothing in the trunk simply as a Plan B, lest there be any question. The process can be slow, dependent upon the number of visitors, so allowing lots of time is not only a good idea but much less worrisome. ID is checked against a list of permitted visitors. My ID is all I carry with me.
When it was raining one day, I had a scarf around my neck which I was informed, very courteously, wasn't permitted.
If you've already visited, I hope it was wonderful. If not, you'll be just fine despite the case of 'nerves'! Once you see your husband, your surroundings will disappear.
