I was talking to my husband last night and he said that they are moving Inmates out of state to Arizona because the California prisons are to crowded. He was telling me to prepare me just incase they move him...
Has anyone else heard this?

Yes ma'am they've been doing this for a while now.

Here's a link with information:

A newly built prison in Az just opened up and inmates have already been transfered there. Downside; farther away from loved ones... Upside; cleaner, not over crowded... 30 minute phone calls (so I hear), better all the way around.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Blessings,

Ally

yeah my son said that are actively moving many inmates, but that it is a volunteer situation for the most part. He said that it is a much more relaxed place with a less prison like atmosphere.

It is not a volunteer situation anymore, it is now mandatory. In the beginning it was volunteers.

Imagine my surprise when my son wrote me a said he was put on the out of state list. I thought as long as they have regular visits they would stay in California.
From what I am reading, go to AZ is not such a bad thing. It takes me over 5 hrs to get to him now, and it sounds like it is a better facility. I know there is no guarantee where they go, or how fast all this works. Any suggestions?

Bennymom,

It use to be if they have family connections/regular visiting the chances were much less, but now it seems they are not paying attention to anything. The pressure is on to get the prison population reduced. You are right; there is no guarantee (with anything related to CDCR) but chances are good at this point that inmates being transferred now are going to Eloy, AZ, since it's a brand spak'n new facility and they have plenty of beds to be filled.

Some have tried contacting their loved ones counselor or an ombudsman's office to stop the transfers, but I have not noticed any recent posts that said it led to successfully stopping a transfer. Just my :twocents:.

When we thought my honey was going to go to Mississippi I was freaked.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and all the Moms who are facing this challenge.

Blessings, Ally

Thank you, I know we are not the only ones... I just hope that he goes to AZ and get into a good prison. I sounds like better phone calls, better food, maybe even alittle safer. Only time will tell......

I don't know if I am right or wrong here, but I heard it is now a Random chance. I did hear too it use to be volunteer, now I'm hearing it is going to be a Random selection. But I don't know really what is the real truth. I hear alot of Pros about going to AZ, and I don't know if it is that much further for some folks. I think the hours of drive for some maybe very close to what they are doing now. GOOD LUCK TO ALL WHO THIS IS AFFECTING!

I called my son's counselor about my son being on the out of state transfer list and he said that before they were going by if the inmate was getting regular visits, but not now. He said because the governor is trying to reduce the population so even if they are getting regular visits they can still be transferred. My son is at Folsom Prison. His counselor said that the inmates working in the industry would not be transferred. I assume that's the ones that are working in the license plate factory there. He also said that any inmates that are on psycotropic meds would not go either. So looks like my son is going out of state. The counselor did say that the out of state private prisons have better programs. He said that my son would be transferred in about 2 months. Right now I'm just an hour away from Folsom. But even if he gets transferred to Arizona I'm going to have a hard time ever visiting him because it's 11 hours away from here and thats driving without stopping.

Inmates on psych medss cannot be moved out because the heat reacts with them. That is why our inmates hear have to be at certain prisons. Also, not sure but fly, if you plan it far enough in advance you can catch some good prices with SOuthwest.

Pros, they have to go to school and work. If they have a GED then they can work full time, if not they have to work part time and go to school part time and all inmates in the private prison get paid. It would be a big difference in dive for me, 2.5 hours ight now compared to 6 if he does go.

The prison where my bf is at, CCC, he said that inmates who does not get any visits will be transferred. But if you only have one year left, they will not transfer you out of state.

I was reading in the California News and Events forum that some civil rights group has filed something in court trying to stop these involuntary transfers.

...yes I do believe that there is but there is also a law suit in-process against Arnold which is putting on the pressure to get the in-mate population in each CA prison reduced.... catch 22?

I believe that they are transferring guys from Ca to AZ...this is ok with me because I live in AZ, so that means I could actually afford to visit him! My husband told me that they are trying to transfer the guys don't really get visits. They send them to Florence, AZ. He said that they can have a playstation or xbox there, but get very little yard time.

My son is at California Mens Colony East. He was just told that he will be going to AZ in December. Others on his yard are going too. He thinks the number is around 30 or 40. It sounds like they are moving to the new 3000 bed La Palma facility run by CCA. Someone he knows who was bounced back in on a parole violation, but who was at a CCA facility in AZ said it was much better. Weight room, bigger cell, phone cards cable etc. He didn't volunteer, but he's eager to go now.

My son is also at California Mens Colony East and was told he'd be transferred to LaPalma, Red Rock or Florence in Nov. I've been reading good things about things about these places. I hope it's as nice as CMC or better, if that's possible.

My prayers are on that exact subject. If they have to be farther away from loved ones God please let it be that they experience a better quality of life then they have now.

So I hear from my son, that a bus left CTF on Friday to Arizona. Apparently they told them like a day or two before so they could tell family and be ready to go. He was'nt on that bus, but he may be on the next. Does anyone know if they are going to be segragated? It's not important to me, but the politics are important to them...and what levels are they taking? It seems like 2 and 3's?????? I would just like to know for peace of mind. I'm sure we will all learn more as time goes by!

One would hope they have some sense and ask the in-mates as they have been doing in Cali... but IDK for sure. I know that California laws are suppose to hold up even though they are on Arizona ground.

I'm sure this is nerve wracking for everyone involved. Try to reassure your son that it's going to be ok.

I wish I could say more.. have some magic words or something but all I can say is my prayers are with you and your son.

I know someone that was moved to Arizona a few months ago, he volunteered. Let me share what I know.

First - They make them wear paper jumpsuits for transport. That's awful considering how hot it is in Arizona.

The food is better, and yes they have video games.

Phone calls to the Bay Area are $16.00 each......watch your phone bill ladies, they will not cut you off like GTL. A friend of mine received a $600.00 bill.

You can have less than a year left on your sentence, however; if you are serving a parole violation, you will not be transferred. Glad I only have 23 days til' homecoming for my sweetie.

Yes, inmates must still follow the same rules and laws as they did in California. They also retain the same rights as all California inmates. If they are written up, the rules and consequences are the same. All legal paperwork is from the State of California, i.e. '602'.

The guards are pretty laid back, they only carry handcuffs and a nightstick....remember these are private industry prisons, guess that makes a difference.

I hear the enjoyment of the added amenities wears off pretty fast and they want to come back.

I wish all inmates being transferred, a safe transfer, a safe stay, and a safe return. May God walk with you every step of the way.

To the families of transferred inmates, stay prayerful.

Thank you, that is very helpful. It really help to know some of the stuff that will be happening to him. I guess the biggest fear is of the unknown. Again, Thanks!
