This is for an involuntary transfer situation.

1. Once they had a hearing, how long did it take before they knew where they were headed? How long before they were sent there?

2. Do health conditions, such as heart trouble, really disqualify inmates from an out-of-state transfer?

3. Does anyone have a positive involuntary out-of-state transfer experience to share? Is prison life there better than in CA?

Can't answer #'s 1 and 2.

#3, my man is voluntary. So I'm not sure if I qualify to answer your question accurately. Like with anything there are pros and cons, but I believe in his overall experience he feels that quality of life is better where he is than when he was in CA.

Once They Have There Hearing It Could Be A Month Or The Next Day All Depends On When The Plane Or Bus Is Leaving.
For Question 3 Yes Heart Trouble Or Any Health Problems Should Stop The Transfer.
But Only If A Inmate Has A History Of It.

Thank you! The hearing was scheduled for anytime after the 27th, and I haven't heard anything yet. They're on lockdown, so no phone calls. As for the heart issues, he's got tachycardia, arrhythmia and a heart murmur, but they're still looking at giving him an involuntary transfer. I'm hoping those issues will disqualify him when the time comes for the hearing, but I have no idea whether they'll decide to send him anyway.

my brother in law had a hernia they wouldnt send him but they still have to go though the hearings by the first hearing he should know also you should call his cc1 if you dont get anywhere call the cc2 and ask for the attorney number so you can talk to the attorney and let him know your hubbys situations. .

That is SUCH a good idea! Thank you! I've been on pins and needles trying to figure out what's happening with the hearing, I didn't think of calling the CCs or the attorney. Do you have to know the attorney's name? I know the names of the CC1 and CC2, but not the attorney. This is my dad who's going through all this, and he was going to put me as his emergency contact in his paperwork, so I'm thinking if he did that then maybe that'd make things easier.

Re: #3 Question...

I don't have anything first hand really. Except my love got a letter from a buddy (through the Chaplin) who was transfered out of state and he did mention the play station and weight equipment.

Here is some info. from the CDCR web-site:

List of out of state facilities:
http://www.cdcr.ca.gov/Visitors/CA_Out_Of_State_Facilities.html

Pictures and info on some facilities
http://www.cdcr.ca.gov/News/cca_images.html

They say that some have weight equipment, play station, pool tables and other things just not possible in California.

Good luck to you and your loved one!

Blessings,

Ally

The One Thing He Can Do Is Go To His Cc1 And Tell Them That He Wants A Release Of Information Paper That He Can Sign And That Gives You Permission To Call And Talk To Them.

Another great idea. I'll ask him to do that in the next letter I send.

It's funny. I called his CCI a couple months ago because he'd seen a "pending out of state transfer" note on his medical file. She told me he wasn't on any transfer lists. Then, out of the blue, he gets a notice for an out of state transfer hearing. Pain in the butt.

How do they volunteer? My son is a lvl 1 inmate with about 14 months left on his sentence he's at CSATF and hates it and said that another state could not be worse.

Honestly, to my knowledge, unfortunately they aren't really taking volunteers anymore. That is pretty much over, now they are just being forceful.

My dad got a notice a few months ago and was transferred out of Soledad to a reception facility for final medical assessment. He said he's supposed to go to AZ, but we don't know what facility or anything yet. I haven't heard from him since 7/31, and he left on 8/1. Hoping to hear something soon!

do you think an inmate would not pass the medical assessment for out of state transfer if he has hep c? so many guys in prison have this.

From what I've heard, the only medical issue that'll keep them in CA is heart problems. Even then, if the state deems them not bad enough, they'll still send them. That's what's happening with my dad. :(

I looked into this - and the state is contracted with CCA - Corrections Corporations of America. There are 4 states that they are contracted for - Arizona - Mississippi - Tennessee - and Oklahoma. YOu can go to California Department of Corrections - Look for the link in there for OUT OF STATE TRANSFERS and then go to the area for viewing the contract with CCA - that will give you the information that is required of them and the exact facilities that they are being transferrred to each state. You can look in the web site for CCA and it tells you what the facilities have - and what the inmates will have accessible to them.

I looked at it - and it looks like a good opportunity in the way of education and things - that this state does not have. It looks like they are still going to transfer and there is nothing to do about it. Personally I feel it is a much better place to be then where these guys are at now.

I hope that helps everyone.

Ok my honey was on the list and he could NOT go due to kidney issues. The word I got from medical was he could not be transfered as long as they are receiving treatment for a medical condition. You can call medical where he is at and inquire. If he is receiving treatment for his hep C he might not be eligible to go. Also a friend of ours went to a facility in Arizona and he says it's like Disney Land. Now he has only been gone for like 4 months and they have just recently transfered him to La palma Correctional Center in Eloy AZ. He is still Lovin it. His story is this because it is a private institution the guards are "not as strict or militant" something to do with the level of training they receive because they are not mandated by the state. Hope this helps oh by the by my husband had to sign a medical release or something stating I could be told about his medical issues. I also recommend putting a code word on the top of the release. Due to HIPPA which involves a patients privacy on the streets we are not allowed to give information over the phone. We put the code word on the top of the paper in big bold letters and when I call they usually get back to me within 24 hours and I say I'm his wife and our code word is blah blah blah so they know for sure it is me and we just talk freely. Good luck to all

Tennessee, Arizona and Oklahoma are all possibilities. They were sending them to Mississippi too I think - but because of stuff that happened there I believe they stopped shipping them there.

Don't be suprised if he ends up at La Palma Prison in Eloy Az. It is the newest CCA prison that they are sending Cali. inmates too. It is also The largest one they have in Arizona (3,000 beds) I think so far they have around only 500-600 inmates there with more on the way.

They shipped my dad out on the 1st of August and I didn't hear from him until the 15th. At that point he was still in reception and told me he'd write as soon as he had an address I can write to.

He went from CTF to Wasco, then from Wasco to La Palma, by bus.

I have a question about if they are transferred out of state. Does anyone of you know if when they are at the out of state facililty, if the inmate is allowed to smoke there? I'm just wondering since it's in another state if the no smoking ban is the same as California's prison system. My son wanted to know.

Do you know if they have Overnight Visits (family visits) at La Palama? I know that Red Rock does not but I thought that they were going to start them at the new facility.

I heard through my guy, who got a letter (via the Chaplin) from his buddy who was transferred to Mississippi (I think) about 6-8 months ago. That if they are a California resident and it's not allow in CA prisons, they still aren't allowed to smoke. His buddy said that they have play station and weight equipment, etc., but not allow to smoke.

2nd hand info is all I have on this, maybe someone else knows something for sure and will post.

no they can not smoke they go by cali rules
I have heard they were going to put two rvs in for family visits at the eloy place but that again is only a rumor when i talked to ms lee about it she said that may not happen till all the places could get them.
at visiting i talked to the visiting staff they said they had visits at the fcc site at the motel acrossed the street but have since stopped it because of someone getting hurt.
they have no places in having them again. as for how long it takes it depends on the bus or plane leaving. yes they can have an x box or playstaion
with ten games that are not rated r or mature
i sent my hubby a used one and used games. it is way cheaper and if they is something wrong with a game they send you another one right away. you can look at the stuff at barnesandnoble.com

I would call the facility to find out what their visiting schedule is like. (520) 464-3970 Also ask if all the visiting info has been input to their computer. Sometimes it takes a while for CDCR to put that info into the CCA system. Good Luck
