Does anyone know if Hazelton is on lockdown again? Thanks!

Thanks Zelda50. I didn't check on the "Federal System" section. My nephew wrote me a letter and said that someone had been stabbed and they didn't know if he was going to surrive. He said that if he didn't they would be going on lockdown again. I hope that didn't turn out to be the reason.
Have you heard the rumor that they were going to divide the prison up and send 1/2 to another location?

My boyfriend wrote me and said someone was stabbed..I forget what all else it said..But I was so mad when I found out I planned to visit this weekend for the first time in 3months..I just car another car...It crazy how often they lock down.

I know how you feel LilMama28. My sister and I have been planning to go to see my nephew all summer long. Everytime we get a free opportunity or weekend to go, they suddenly go on Lockdown. I received a letter from my nephew today and he said that it was involving a big gang fight outside and they don't know when they are going to get off lockdown again. If they were to give awards for the most lockdowns, Hazelton would win for sure. They are locked down more than not.

The state penitentiary in Hazelton is on lockdown Wednesday afternoon after a fight there this morning.

Authorities haven't released much information yet, but prison officials have confirmed that a fight erupted in the prison sometime Wednesday morning.
One prisoner was stabbed in the fight. He was immediately rushed to the hospital. Authorities have not released which hospital he was taken to.

I had a big feeling they were under lock-down again, he didn't email me back since Wednesday... but now I know the reason why... Oh my gosh.. they just got out of one recently too...

They usually get out on Mondays.. so I'm hoping I'll recieve an email from him tomorrow morning .. *fingers crossed*

You're so lucky since you're in the area you get letters so quickly. I'm all the way in British Columbia so my letters take a whole week !!

He called this morning at 8 they are now off lockdown again...But hard to tell how long this will last...

Oh, I am so glad they are out of lockdown. I hope this will last for some time but who knows. I have a question. Members of our family have completed the visitation paperwork but we have heard nothing yet. That was weeks ago. How will we know when we have permission to visit? Will they notify us or tell my nephew that we have been cleared? How does that work? Would it help if we called someone at Hazelton?

They should give him a list saying if you were denied or approved...If they havent given him one then he could ask him counselor about it...Im pretty sure you can just call also to find out..It took about a week for me to be approved..Then my boyfriend told me that I was and could come visit...I know if its within his first 30 days family(mother father sisters brothers wifes) can go without being approved...But they still have to fill out the form...

Yeah, my husband told me when I was added, and it was fairly quick. I know that in state, they will not give you that information over the phone. I guess they don't want people pretending they are someone else just to see if that person is on his list, privacy issues. I don't know how federal is.

I thought things were going rather slowly on this and now I know for sure. It has been over a month since we all sent in the paperwork. We are going to have to make a phone call to see what the delay is all about. It is probably due to all of those dang lockdowns. We want things in order so hopefully we can visit soon. Have you asked him if hes heard anything about it? Sometimes I think it depends on the counselor they have too..Some of them care some of them dont...My boyfriends seems to be pretty nice what I know of him..Hes helped him out a lot when he first got there..And still does helping him do what hes gotta do to be moved to another place

Yes, we have asked him. He said he is waiting to hear. His counselor doesn't seem as accomodating as your boyfriend's. My nephew recommended we call to see what the hold up is but we didn't want to do that until we knew that we were giving them a reasonable amount of time to do what they needed to do to OK us. His mother and dad and siblings probably can visit now but they are planning to drive to my house which is on the way (and only 2 hours from Hazelton) and I was going with them. Since I am an aunt, I would probably need to have the clearance OKed ahead of time.
How long will they let you visit on a weekend? Is the visits limited, like for 2 or three hours or can you stay for the full visitation? Thanks!

Im not sure about aunts..I would just call and ask them to see what they say...Like I said some do their jobs some dont...You have that everywhere...I think visitation starts at 8:30 ends at 3 or 3:30 I forget..You can stay as long as you want but if they started getting crowded they start asking the people who arrived first to leave...

We will call and see. Hopefully, we will get there within the next month, lockdowns permitting.

Yea I plan to go this weekend hopefully they dont go on lockdown before then..you never know with those crazy people..I hope yah get to visit soon though..

Thanks..No I dont think they are on lockdown I called the number today to see...It said visits were good...My boyfriend did tell me someone got stabbed again wednesday and he thought they would but they did..

Thanks Lilmama. My sister finally heard from my nephew. When we don't hear anything for a few days, we start to worry. We still haven't heard about approval for visiting. We tried to call the counselor but we kept getting some privacy recording and we couldn't get through. We don't have blocks on our phone. The counselor must have it on his end. A lot of good posting his number does us :confused:l. We hope to visit in two weeks so we are trying to get our clearance. Do the inmates get to talk with their counselor whenever they want or do they have to set up appts.?

Im not sure if they have to set up appointments or not...I would just have you nephew check and see if you have been approved...He should have gotten a list after you sent in the paperwork...He got one then sent it to me
