I've seen it go both ways. My daughter had a fresh cartilage peircing in her ear, along with the earrings they allow and they let her go. But if you set off the alarm, the only way to get in is to remove them. I'd get rid of as many as possible before I went in, because anything you remove has to be taken all the way back out to your car.

Oh! That's a good idea!! I don't know why I didn't think of that. I'm not worried about my old piercings, but I was kinda bummed about my new one.

Thanks for reminding me about those things!

What do you have pierced? I have my tounge, nose, eyebrow, ears and bellybutton all pierced and i've never had a problem! It dependes on if you have them done right, pierceings are all done with sterling silver jewlery so that dosent set off the metal detectors!

If you have 14K gold jewelry it doesn't set the machines off. Real silver either.

Mine have never gone off at SCC. I have seen women take their piercings out to get through the metal detector but were able to put them back in for their visit.

I see women go through with the little and medium sized alligator clips in their hair with no problem but bobby pins will go off.

They made me take my piercings off so I could walk through the metal detector. Then they gave me a small bag to put my earings in and they put them in the manila envelope with my id.

Visitor Attire

It is recommended that visitors dress conservatively and with the following guidelines in mind.
Inappropriate attire will be reason to deny a visit. Any alteration to clothing once a visitor is inside the
visiting area will be grounds for terminating the visit.

Prohibited Attire

• Clothing which, in any combination of shades or types of material/fabric, resembles California
State-issued inmate clothing, blue denim or chambray shirts and blue denim pants.
• Clothing that resembles law enforcement or military-type clothing, including rain gear.
• Hats, wigs or hairpieces (except with prior written approval of the Visiting Sergeant).
• Clothing that exposes the breast/chest area, genital area, or buttocks.
• Dresses, skirts, pants, and shorts exposing more than two inches above the knee, including slits
when standing.
• Sheer or transparent garments.
• Strapless or "spaghetti” strap tops.
• Clothing exposing the midriff area.
• Clothing or accessories displaying obscene or offensive language or drawings.
• Brassieres with metal underwires or any other detectable metal are not permitted.

I've never had any problems getting in ~ buy i guess it depends on the guard. Just watch anything to low cut at the chest, cause they will make you turn it around or get a new shirt...plus now they have this stupid rule about if you lift your arms your armpits are not allowed to show...LOL ~ didnt know my armpits were sexy, but whatever. Just use your good judgement and if you think it may not fly then dont wear it or at least bring a different outfit in case they make you change. The only thing that sucks is if your man is on Calaveras or Mariposa it is a long walk back to your car ~ but Bernie in the friends outside building is pretty good about letting you know if something wont work ~ if he doesnt mention anything, just ask him, he is really nice and helpful and has been there for like 8 yrs.

Make sure your sleeves cover your full shoulder - and no v-backs, even if nothing is showing. Also, I was told by a CO in the visiting room that I need to make sure when I bent forward that no clevage shows or my visit would be terminated. So, I bent forward for her when I signed in and asked her to check me on the spot - as I had no intent to be out of compliance and have my visit terminated. She got to see for herself that nothing showed. :)

Genreally speaking most places don't let you wear the rubber type flip flops like shower shoes. Each prison varies so I'm sure someone who has visited recently will come along with an answer. :)

I have worn a bright green shirt before, so that must be OK. I think as long as the shorts are down to your knees they are OK. I don't know of any restrictions on baby clothes. I bought a clear zippered make-up bag at Wal-mart and it worked really well. I think they even have some with a little black fabric strap that look like a little purse. Here are some other visiting guidelines:

Visitor Attire

It is recommended that visitors dress conservatively and with the following guidelines in mind.
Inappropriate attire will be reason to deny a visit. Any alteration to clothing once a visitor is inside the

All medication shall be in its original pharmacy container with the patient's name, pharmacy, name of

Visiting Room Procedures

Each visitor and inmate is responsible for his or her own conduct while visiting. Violation of the rules
and regulations may result in termination, restriction, suspension, or denial of visits. Additionally,
disciplinary action may be taken against the inmate. An inmate and his/her visitor(s) are allowed to
briefly embrace and kiss at the beginning and end of their visit. An inmate may hold his or her minor
children. Inmates may also hold minor children accompanied by an adult. Children are to remain
under the direct supervision and control of the visiting parent or guardian at all times. Holding hands
on top of the table in plain view is permitted, with no other physical contact. Excessive contact,
(kissing, massaging, stroking, and sitting with legs intertwined or sitting on laps) could result in
termination of the visit. Nursing mothers shall be discreet and covered when breast-feeding their baby

receive any items, gifts, money, jewelry, or documents during a visit. However, the adult visitor may

Just be sure to have a couple of changes of clothing ready to go in the car - just in case you or the baby have to change. The big thing seems to be no low necklines or low cut backs - even V-necks or V-backs have been flagged- be sure not to show your armpits - sleeveless blouses or sleeves that are too short get flagged. I've worn bermuda shorts - down to my knees. Also clothing that is too fitted - even a proper fit - can be flagged - they seem to prefer looser clothing. One of the guards is very, very particular... and I'm sorry to say this - but if you have a nice figure, you will be watched like a hawk. Just go real modest and then when you think you've got it - make sure your back up outfit(s) are even more modest.

You'll have a great visit!
