Can my man go ahead and start applying for his social security card before he gets out, if he sends in all his forms along with his TDC card?

Does this person not already have an SSN ?

Did he lose the physical card somewhere in his travels?

Replacement card can be applied for by him once he's out.

If he's a grown-up citizen in this country and has managed to get this far without ever having paid a tax, he'd better try applying for his first SSN in person when he has the chance.

I had to get a replacement card. I had to get a form and submit a form and then the card was mailed to my land address. I'd guess that any mail to him in a facility would be screened and the card (if he managed to get one mailed to an institution would be confiscated. It's not your personal property.

You can also go to www.ssa.gov or call 1-800-772-1213 between 7am and 7pm. To apply for a card for the first time he will need proof of identity like drivers license, birth certificate, etc, but perhaps the website and number above can answer you specific question. Good Luck.

Wayne took his expired driver's license and got a new one. He then took his new driver's license and got a new SS card. His old one had been lost somewhere. It was a really simple and easy thing to do - he went to the SS office and it took about 10 minutes and about 2 weeks for the card to arrive.

I got the form off the internet and filled it out and took in my hubby's divorce decree from a previous marriage, his DL, and our marriage certificate to the local SS office. They signed the form for approval of documents but since I didn't have our general power of atty, I had to send him the form to sign. The card came to me in the mail. It didn't take but maybe 15-20 minutes to do it in person at the SS office either.

In Conn the person has to be there to get the card. But it only takes 2 or 3 days to get it bye mail.

If he is in federal prison he can have his Unit Team (or Counselor) request one for him
