Hi there, my husband's niece got in some trouble and is in Estrella jail. He wants me to send her a postcard to let her know we are thinking of her, but I don't know what info I need to send it. Do I have to have her booking number? My husband was never in Maricopa county jails, so I don't know much about the jail system down here. If anyone has info for me, I'd appreciate it. Thanks! :)

Yes you need her # - hubby was there before - and make sure its a post card - Sheriff Joe banned letters
I used to have the number for Maricopa County on my phone but I no longer do ... theres a way to call and get the booking number with their automatic system - you need her full name and date of birth for that.

Thanks for the info. My word, those are some crazy rules they have. What the heck difference does it make what color of ink you write in? They just want to make it as difficult as they can, don't they? I don't even know how to get a postcard metered!

Thanks for the info, but what a hassle if you're sending mail a lot, huh.

Yes it is - my hon was in county for 4 months 2 of which was after the postcard only crap. I bought a box of Avery Postcards (4 on a page) and would make 1 of 4, 2 of 4 etc or however many it was and make it a small font and print an entire letter on postcards!!! Had to find a way since I didn't have a phone at the time to get calls. Te only 'good' thing was i would stop and see him at least once a week (sometimes more) though the visits were a pain at least it was face to face and not over a monitor (most county jails are now by monitor - that sucks)

You can also buy pre-postaged postcards from the post office and those are ok...sent them to my sister in May.
Good luck...once you get used to it, it is not so bad.
