I got a letter from my son yesterday Todd. What he had to write me just tore at my very heart. My son had an older friend that died in prison just a few days ago. His name was Ozzie and he was 60. Todd sensed that something was not quite right with Ozzie. He was gasping for breath and holding his chest. My son asked him several times if he was alright. And Ozzie said he was okay. But my son knew something was not right with his friend. As he turned to go get help, my son heard Ozzie hit the floor. My son went to his knees beside Ozzie. He then put Ozzie's head in his lap, trying to get him comfortable. Then, my son yelled for help. My son took Ozzie's pulse and there was none. My son knew his friend was gone. Guard came up to Todd. Told my son to lay Ozzie's head back on the ground. My son told the guard NO. Guard then called for medical assistance. A nurse did give Todd a pillow, to put under his friend's head. Then, my son walked away, as they begun to work on Ozzie to revive him. He had to walk away, as Todd knew they could not revive him. Ozzie was a lifer. Been in prison since 1967. He went in at the age of 19. Ozzie had no family. So, there was no one to claim the body. Todd wrote me that they will bury him on what they call Chicken Hill. I had to write about this. As it has bothered me ever since Todd wrote me about this. I have wrote my son a letter. And I told him that I Ozzie did not die alone. He had my son there with him when he passed away. I am very proud of my son for what he did for this friend. Todd made certain that this poor man was given respect. He did the right thing in telling that guard NO. Todd lost another friend several years ago, while in prison. Todd was friends with a young man, that hung himself in the cell next to my son. My son has a good heart. That death bothered him and I know this death of Ozzie will as well. Prisons are hell on earth in my opinion. To die in such a place is heartwrenching to me. But as Todd wrote me, finally Ozzie is FREE. Just want to offer up a prayer to Ozzie. I hope others will as well. This man had no family. I find that so very sad. I pray for the so many others that have passed away while in prison. Makes me very thankful that my son will soon walk out of prison still young and alive. My son is a very strong young man. But, I know his heart. Please help me pray for my son as well. I know he feels hurt that his friend is now gone. And to have that friend die in his arms. God Bless all that have experienced the loss of a loved one while in prison. And God Bless all inmates in general and their loved ones. I keep saying it on this forum. Inmates are very much human beings. They have all the emotions and feelings that people on the outside have. We that are or have gone down this horrible road do understand that all too well. It is the ones that judge and condemn our inmates, that do not have the heart or emotions. Sorry so long. Just wanted to get this off my mind. Thank you.

PRAYER TO
OUR LADY OF MERCY
(By St. Augustine of Hippo.)

Blessed Virgin Mary,
who can worthily repay you with praise
and thanks for having rescued a fallen world
by your generous consent!
Receive our gratitude,
and by your prayers obtain the pardon of our sins.
Take our prayers into the sanctuary of heaven
and enable them to make our peace with God.

Holy Mary, help the miserable,
strengthen the discouraged,
comfort the sorrowful,
pray for your people,
plead for the clergy,
intercede for all women consecrated to God.
May all who venerate you
feel now your help and protection.
Be ready to help us when we pray,
and bring back to us the answers to our prayers.
Make it your continual concern
to pray for the people of God,
for you were blessed by God
and were made worthy to bear the Redeemer of the world,
who lives and reigns forever.

Amen.

How greatful I am for people like Todd - and he was able to be with his friend in his final moments. I am sure if he hadn't been, he would always regret that. You have raised a fine son, regardless of what his current situation is. One day I asked my son about someone who had posted on here, and he said he would try to check. I said it wasn't necessary, and he said = Yes - we are all we have in here and we need to watch out for other people. So I guess there is some compassion and kindness
in those chillling places. Bless you and your family.

this is so sad I will pray for strength for your son...I can't imagine and my heart aches for him and it hits so close to home and is one of my biggest fears of loving someone who has life, seeing them die in that place :(

Yes I too believe all humans deserve our love and respect, yes some have done wrong, but God tells us He will do the judging, so I too will pray for all the imates and their familys. May God bless Ozzy and your son, and you too Mom!

Sorry your son had to witness another death in prison. May God bless and watch over him. It was very kind what he did for Ozzy, who is in God's hands now. Prayers going up for all the in-mates.
