Sinphany 05-08-2008, 11:11 AM SHU visits R hard B...especially when you gotta do years...
There's no way to get around it....
Mines was in Tehachapi SHU for 6...so I know what you feelin'...
Just visit as much as you can...he'll need to see your face and feel your luv..you know...plus for some reason from my experience I notice that the more I went to visit even for that 1hr behind glass the more he felt like he wasn't out of sight out of mind...you know all they have time to do in the SHU is think!!! No movement, no phones, no yard, no dayroom....so sometimes they let they emotions and anger get the best of them and the situation...
Hopefully he'll get out much sooner...but just write and send money...
Best of Luck
Take Care
kupenda4life 05-08-2008, 01:43 PM damn I think mine is headed in this direction hes in the hole now waiting for a hearing..
Im gonna pray real hard we dont get years...
Best of luck to all you who are in it already.. it takes a whole different kinda of women to do time with a man... My props to all of US ladies...
HisWifey7707 05-08-2008, 01:45 PM My Husband is in the SHU at Corcoran. He's been there for a year and a half. The visits are tough, only one hour and it's behind glass so it sucks...you can send a money order. You can get them at Wal-Mart and they only charge you $0.25. Enclose it with a letter to him and make sure he knows it was in that envelope.
My Husband was supposed to be out in 12 months and it's been about 18 months...so chances are he won't get out early. But, each situation is unique so he may get lucky!!
A.C. Aldag 05-08-2008, 05:55 PM Sometimes they can get out early; depends on circumstances and appeals. A list of all the offenses, rules violations and sentences are in the Title 15 rules book.
Yes they can receive checks but only spend $45 / month at the store. I was told that it takes up to a month for checks to post, or money orders, so J-pay is faster. They can get one special purchase package per year -- I'm suggesting a TV or radio w/ all the cables and stuff to keep him occupied.
They are, by law, supposed to get one hour of yard per day, so if he's not, he really should appeal it! They're also supposed to be able to get out for a certain time per week for law library.
Good luck and blessings to you and your man.
andyboyswife 05-08-2008, 11:18 PM My husband has been in the SHU at Corcoran twice first time was for a year and this time a little over a year now he's in SHU-Ad-seg overflow what ever that is. yes the visits are hard and behind glass for a hour if you come so many miles away you get two hour visits I do because I live in Oregon. I send him a 45 j-pay monthly. I try to write him everyday and I bought him a tv with the cables which really helps him with the time.
vskarski79 05-09-2008, 09:36 AM Mine's in SHU. I just found out he is finally being released, everything will be done within 60 days. But he is being a jerk right now so I am mad at him.
BUT- I tried jpay for the first time, it is saying that my payment is still pending, so I am not sure when he will get it. But I usually always sent money orders through the post office, and he always got them. Just takes a little while. No phones though, so I haven't had that experiance yet. As for visits- if you are more than 250 miles away, you are supposed to be able to have a two hour visit, not one. It is on their website.
And quartly packages cannot exceed a certain dollar amount I think, but it can't weigh more than 35 pounds. All guys in SHU are in privalge group D I beleive.
monizie 05-09-2008, 04:02 PM Sooo you can send them any kind of money order?? They dont have to be from the post office??

Yes, that is true. Some may take longer to post to his books than others.
vskarski79 05-09-2008, 10:31 PM From what I have been reading, it is safer and quicker for some reason to send the ones right from USPS. I haven't had any problems, they get them posted in about two weeks or so from the date I send them. Maybe just play it safe? It's only a dollar from the post office, but I guess it depends how far you have to go to get to the post office as opposed to the 7-11 on the corner.
Really sorry to hear your man is in SHU.
monizie 05-16-2008, 08:30 PM I'll just stick to JPAY is quicker....thanks for the responce:thumbsup:
Weaver 05-21-2008, 02:38 PM wow... my friend is in the SHU and has been there for nine years. He is doing LIFE under the CA three strike law.
I have sent money orders from both the USPO and banks, grocery stores... never had a problem, I hope that helps.
We have had mail issues as in him not getting some of my mail and visa verse... now we number our letter and envelopes and for some reason it has helped. Also, I send really important stuff priority mail and request a signature and that also helps. Big time. The flat rate priority service isn't too bad, especially if you send a lot of pages- we are working on a writ and I often print articles and other things and put together a package of sorts. It's under $5.00 and worth it, imo.

Hi, can you tell me where to find the information on visits being able to be extended for 2 hours if you live far enough away? I live 275 miles from the prison and was never aware of this but would like to utilize it if possible. Also, can anyone tell me how much money they can have each month on their account while in the SHU?
Thanks for your help.......
A.C. Aldag 05-22-2008, 09:19 PM Weaver, our friend just won a lawsuit that states that inmates cannot serve indefinate SHU terms and they can not be held for very long terms such as nine years. Their sentence has to fit with the Title-15. E-mail me or Skarski off list for details and the precedent.
ADS4me, the amount they can spend at the store is $45 per month. I don't know where it's stated, but I have heard this as well, about the 2 hour visits. This is if you're not able to visit often. Perhaps it's in the Title 15 or the book of rules for the SHU??? Please call the visiting sargeant to inquire.
ADS4me 05-22-2008, 09:27 PM A.C. thanks for the info on the amount of $ they can spend each month. I'm wondering about this because for the past year I've been sending my husband $100 -$150 MONthly!! I'm just wondering where this money is going if he can only spend 45.00 a month! I want to make sure I have my information right before I bust him on this. Is it written anywhere?
Thanks again!
A.C. Aldag 05-23-2008, 07:31 PM Before you get too upset with him, please realize that he might have to give 1/2 to restitution, court costs, etc. Also the rest goes onto his books, if he needs a fee for notary or whatever, they will take it off his books, even though he can only spend $45 at the store.
nicoledelking 06-04-2008, 02:23 PM I just found out yesterday when I called records that my babe is in the SHU...never had to do an SHU bid...Any info. you ladies can share with me?? He's also EOP does anyone have any knowledge on this?
monizie 06-26-2008, 08:02 PM Hello ladies:wave:
Wow the forums split :broken:
Things are changing around here huh..
Well i got a question does Shu get visits
on friday too?? Just curious...thanks for any responces:)
Junior'sQueen 06-26-2008, 08:28 PM I believe you can. Why don't you call either of these numbers:
1-800-374-8474 Regarding visiting information
1-559-992-9444 To schedule an appt.
Best of Luck to ya!
monizie 06-26-2008, 08:52 PM thanks for your help:thumbsup:
Weaver 07-09-2008, 04:39 PM Hi, can anyone tell me about visits with guys in the SHU? I just made an appointment to visit a friend and don't know what to expect. Since I am out of state I was told we can have a two hour visit behind glass. Is that the best they get?? Seems extreme to me :( Anyway I scheduled the visit... any advice would be most welcome :)
aliferzwife 07-09-2008, 07:32 PM I believe that generally they are only one hour (you are probably getting a longer visit due to being from out of state), but someone correct me if I'm wrong.
It's a room full of windows and benches to sit on in front of each window. I haven't been in the SHU visiting rooms since 1995 (back then the visits were 20 minutes and I drove 325 miles one way), but that's how I remember it.
Junior'sQueen 07-10-2008, 12:08 AM HI Weaver! Yeah, I believe you are correct, I believe they are two hours. A friend of mine was in the SHU and she got 2 hour visits with her man........even one time she got about a 3+ hour visit. I think they just forgot about her or something cause she was the only one visiting behind glass. So hopefully you will get that lucky, at least from time to time. ;)
Weaver 07-10-2008, 07:50 AM Thanks you guys, the visit is for mid-September. I'll be flying into Bakersfield.... any hotel suggestions?
Looks like I will have some time to kill in between visits. I got one for Saturday and one for Sunday.
I was hoping there might be a way to get a picture taken..... is that out of the question?
aliferzwife 07-10-2008, 09:30 AM WOW! Really? They are routinely 2 whole hours! Well, there is one improvement in the system (and there are so seldom improvements). That is GREAT news!! Man, when my husband did a 6 month SHU term back in 1995 the visits were 20 minutes and they meant 20 minutes!!! It was horrible.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!
Junior'sQueen 07-10-2008, 12:23 PM Hey ALiferz: what about staying in Tulare? that is about 20 mins away and I have heard many girls talk about Tulare and Motel 6, how it is pretty good and they have tons of restaurants, etc. around. Personally, I've never stayed there, cause I just go for Friday visits. Whatcha think??
aliferzwife 07-10-2008, 02:08 PM I've read that too. Here is the link to the Corcoran Prison Guide section on Motels in the area of Corcoran.

ladycindyblue 07-13-2008, 04:47 PM Can anyone tell me if we are allowed to bring in pictures with us into a visit. I am visiting in the SHU, and would like to bring in pictures, if so how many are allowed? Thank you for your help
Cindy
hissunshine4evr 07-13-2008, 04:51 PM you are allowed to take in 10.
ladycindyblue 07-13-2008, 04:56 PM Thank you very much.
HisWifey7707 07-14-2008, 05:45 PM Nope. Sorry to burst your bubble, but SHU visits are 1 hour and 2 hours for 300+ miles or if you're getting married. I'm out there every Saturday visiting in the SHU and the longest I've gotten was about an hour and 15 minutes.
HisWifey7707 07-14-2008, 06:07 PM Nope. SHU visits are on Saturday and Sundays only and you have to make the appointment the prior week. The SHU hasn't been as crowded as it was there for a while, so visits are a little better!! Have a great visit!!
cloya 08-09-2008, 09:28 PM Hi Ladies,
Well my husband is being transfered from Soledad to Corcoran, he will be serving an 11 month term in the SHU. In Soledad he served 8 months in the hole so I know what to expect. The thing is that I'm confused about the visiting process. I know I need to make an appointment first, but once I do that, whats next? Do I have to wait in a line to get a number? Where exactly do I have to go? Basically I'm asking for a step by step process. Please give me some feed back. He should arrive on Monday so I'm hoping to see him that weekend.
Much appreciated
Cloya
edsbaby 08-09-2008, 11:00 PM As far as I know, mostly from observation. When visiting shu/reg you just go in get your pass fill it out, hand it back in, then wait. I hear the bus driver that takes me over to Level 1, call for Level 1 (this weekend he actually called out the names of the passes he had, the two previous times he just said Level 1/SHU) and appointments. Then we all get on the bus and get dropped off at our destination. You get processed in which ever building you are going into, Level 1/SHU.
If I am incorrect, I am most certain someone will correct it!! I will not be offended!! I'm still learning!!
Next time I visit I will ask the drive more questions about SHU visits. I got Level 1 down!!! I can answer those questions almost without a doubt!!
You might check out this thread. It maybe more helpful than my info!!

cloya 08-11-2008, 02:12 AM Thank You.
I have another question, Do I need to get there real early? And where do I get the pass? When I get to the prison where exactly do I have to go? In Soledad we would have to line up in our cars outside and get our passes like that. Is that how it is there too???????
Much appreciated

First, you need to call between Mon - Friday, 12pm - 2pm, to make a SHU appt. Here is the number: 1-559-992-9444. They say you should arrive at least 45 mins before your appt.
Aliwant24 08-31-2008, 04:17 PM I am going down in about 3 weeks I am so excited, I have not been to visit since March. It has been a crazy summer, I miss you guys :) Last time I went I was lucky and had visits close to 90 minutes. I am not counting on anything. :) I am just excited.
Aliwant24 08-31-2008, 04:27 PM My hubby is the the SHU. Has been for almost 2 years, they keep saying he will get out because I has acheived inactive status, but we are not holding our breath, he is coming home in May, maybe sooner if we are lucky.
I send him money through Moneygram. I express pay Jpay at Walmart and he gets it in 2 days. I sent $120 and it only cost 6.95. The receiver code to do it is 6141. So, if you want to save time you can do it there :)
