My husband will be going to VA for charges from 8 different states it started in VA so the other states agreed to have his trial there. Any way he was wondering what federal prison is close to ohio? Do they allow smoking? He says it has to be better then county jail! Thanks

It's more strict in the federal system...the stories I hear about time done in the state ..are things they really don't get away with in the feds.

Smoking has to be outdoors, they get smoke breaks, but none inside (well they don't have permission to)

My loved one is in federal facility in Petersburg, VA.

Also the closest facility to Ohio may be in Cumberland MD
about 2 hours from Pittsburgh.
You may want to check on the website for additional information!

Good luck and Welcome! My hometown is Pittsburgh!!! Go Steelers :-)

Cumberland is close. There is also a prison in Elkton, OH.

Yes, federal prison is typically more strict than state prison, usually safer as well. Smoking is allowed outdoors.

If I had a choice, I would rather do federal time over state anyday.

There is also FCI Milan...not sure what level you will be going to but this is a low. Close to the Ohio it seems.

From the outside looking a visitor..Federal Prison is far cleaner and nicer then any prison (city, county and state) I have been in around Maryland.
