Susanville is in the middle of nowhere - but we really love to tear up the WalMart while we're there! :) The first step is that your husband needs to find out on his end the paperwork to do to apply for a family visit. They do not grant everyone family visits, if he has any violence or other exclusionary behaviors in his past. Once he is ok'd to be eligible for family visits then he sends you a form and get on the list for a date. But I don't believe it should take that long As far as contact visits, some people have only a one hour visit behind glass, and others can visit the full six hours in the visitng room. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the people meeting behind glass are for disciplinary measures for something they did while they were there (getting into a fight, drugs, etc.) so I believe that as soon as you are an approved visitor you should be able to have the contact visit. I don't know if you have visited him yet at another facility - if so you will already be aproved to visit there, as the paperwork follows him. If not, he will need to send you the visiting form. Hope this helps. Oh, and depending where you are coming from, if you have to go over the Donner Pass from California thru Reno to get there, just be careful of the weather. If you have any other questions just ask. By the way, my experience is with CCC in Susanville, not High Desert.

I agree with you lynne Susanville is in no mans land and I to use to spend alot of money at their wal-mart. My husband was in high desert but its the same as lynne says the C.O are very nice and helpfull. There is actually another way to go you can also go thru chico so you actually don't have to go thru reno I've gone through both ways and from where I'm from they are both very long and boring all though if you go through chico you go by lassen national forest its very pretty.

Hello everyone!

I want to thank you for all your info. Yes, I had visited him at Wasco while he was in reception. As far as we know, he doesn't have any disciplinary offenses and such. This is his first offence and he got convicted of a non-violent crime. So all he should do is request a family visit?
Hopefully he will send me all the paper work soon so we can have our first visit soon. I haven't touched him in almost a year! WEll, i will be satisfied with a simple contact visit!

Thanks again for all your info!
Cynthia

Like Lynne, I spend a lot of time in Walmart after my visits. The CO's at CCC is very helpful and nice. My fiance is in Level 3 too and I always get my 6 hours of visit a day. Not a lot of people visiting in Level 3. I didn't have to fill up another visiting application when he was transferred from NKSP. Try not to visit during winter season when it's snowing because driving there is a bitch.

My man was at High Desert for years and visiting process there runs pretty smoothly however, they seemed to be more strict on dress code details. It can get VERY cold up there in winter though and is definitely in the middle of nowhere!!!! ENJOY your time with him!
