I've read posts about "special" or extended visits, and how does one arrange this? Visitation at my husband's camp is on Sundays - from 8-11 am for half and 11:30-2:30 for the other half. It alternates from week to week - one week he gets it in the morning, the next week in the afternoon. On Sept. 1st (my birthday) this will be visitation the day before Labor Day and I would love to stay all day - through both visits. It is a six hour drive down to where he is. Who would I need to talk to? He's at a small honor camp.

Oh Danielle, I wished you would have asked this earlier. You can get 'special visits'... First call his counselor and let him know that you would like to schedule a special visit. Let him know how far you are driving and see if you can get extended time. I'm not sure looking at the hours you posted, but usually visits are a set time. If you can only visit one of those time normally, the special visit request would allow you to visit for both times. Is your husband in Mississippi also? Which ever state he is in, check the DOC homepage and look for visitation policies. If you do not get any help with the counselor, try the warden of the prison he is at, or I've even found the warden's secretary to be very helpful!
Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Danielle,
My hubby is in Ohio, but there I spoke with the Visitation Supervisor. It might be the same there. Normally Frank's visitation is on Tuesdays only. I just explained to him that we lived 12 hours away etc. Good luck!

I'll try - they are an honor camp in Alabama, but considered to be a part of a larger prison. It's a separate facility, with its own grounds, but it's still a part of that prison. It's odd, but they don't have a warden, but a commanding officer. The ultimate authortiy is the warden of the adjoining prison, but the commanding officer is in charge. Does that make any sense? This officer is new and supposedly not very friendly. I'll call him tomorrow and let you all know how it goes!
