· The aim of The Children of the Future Program is to actively engage the children of an incarcerated parent in the greater NYC area by providing them with caring and dedicated adult support through sound mentoring and exposure to educational and enjoyable outlets.

The Children of the Future Program will soon begin providing free transportation to selected correctional facilites for those children and parent/caregivers who are enrolled in our program.
· The goal of the Children of the Future program is to pair the youth with dependable, concerned mentors who have a genuine interest in their future success with an additional intent to help prepare these children to one day reunite with their biological parents.
· The Children of the Future Program is designed to match children ages four through eighteen; with caring, trained adults that will assist them in developing sound core values.
· All mentors are fingerprinted, background searched, trained for two hours, name searched on sex offender registries, and referenced check.
· Most of our mentors come from sororities, fraternities, colleges, universities, and are professionals.
· All Mentors must meet with the mentee for four hours each month with weekly contact.
· An estimated ten million children have experienced having a parent incarcerated at some point in their lives (Simmons, 2000)
· Research has shown “children of incarcerated parents are six times more likely than their peers to become criminally involved” (Bilchick, Seymour & Kreisher, 2001)
· The Children of the Future Program is a program sponsored by Greenhope Services for Women, Inc. Since 1975, Greenhope has been dedicated to helping formerly incarcerated women with reclaiming their lives, reuniting family and rebuilding communities.
· Mentors save mentees build stronger self esteems, confidence, communication skills, study skills and identify academic and career goals.
· Research has found that youth participating in the program show a 67% improvement in school attendance, a 69% improvement in grades and a 91% increase in self-esteem, a 77% improvement in self-confidence, and a 64% improvement in relationships with peers.
