Hey ladies!! I need help. When I drive to Corcoran 1 from LA, I take the 5N to the 99. I exit Tibnit/Portervill, make a left. Then I drive down the 76 for about 15 minutes to a stop sign and make a right. I then go North for about a minute and make a U-Turn the go up the back of the prison to parking. This is fine for me, I have it memorized. I can't tell you the name of the streets, but this is my route.

My problem is leaving the prison. I can never find the 76 to lead me back to the 99. I always end up on the 43, which seems to take forever to get to the 99. Once I get to the stop sign, it takes about 45 minutes to get to it, I have to go another 6 minutes back to the 99.

Is there an easier/quicker route. This route usually take me about 2 1/2 hours to get there and 3 hours to get back home. And help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It's kind of hard to explain but if you leave the prison, go straight until you get into the town of Corcoran, you will see a shopping center and the train station. I believe it is a blinking red light, you will know where you are because you need to make a right on the main street in Corcoran. Anyways, go right and it takes you to the 99.
There is a back way to go also.

I do the same thing as you. If you miss the road any of the roads after will get you to the 99. But the road your supposed to turn on is the first stop sign and the railroad track is the right.

Well if you go to CSP 1 you will exit the prison, at the stop sign (righ off the Prison "welcome/contraband sign" you make a right. That right is gng to lead you to curve (by the cows) follow the curve on the 1st st. make a QUICK right and then another right! This places you SOUTH n now the prison should be on your right side, and you should be able to see the entrance SHU visiting processing center, take that st. all the way down until you get to the stop sign, make a left and go straight........until you hit the SUNKIST (SP?...orange juice) bldng. then make a right and there you are on the 99fwy South! GOOD LUCK.

LUV, that is the way i go but for people that don't know that way it is easy to get turned around. Especially during winter when it is darker earlier.

The way I've done it is like most.....Exit the prison by turning RIGHT.... go straight, it will Curve to your left, make your very first RIGHT. You will immediately come to a stop sign. (I believe is 4th street) TURN LEFT, go over the train tracks and continue to Veer to your Right going towards "Wasco" and that will put you on the 43(?) and the very first LEFT you can make make it, is the road you take for about 10-15 minutes. Once you go over the other train tracks turn Right at that stop sign and it puts you right back on the 99.

I am going to print out this thread and take it with me. Thank you so much. I will try it out this month and let you know how I make it. I try to follow people out of the prison, but none of the ones I follow are ever going to the 99. Ha!!! Cross your fingers for me.

Taking the 43 all the way to the end (even if by error) is not a bad thing. When you turn left at the end of the 43, you will wind up on Cecil Ave-------which is in Delano.

That's true being on highway 43 is the same as being on the 99 it travels parallel to the 99.

Only problem is, you need to know where to turn left on the 43 to Cecil. this was the shortcut i was talking about. Otherwise you continue south on the 43 and end up near Wasco.

Oh, I feel you. I agree that it is a bit harder on the way home versus on the way there, and especially when it is getting dark.

Call me crazy, or maybe I am missing something here, but wouldn't you turn left on W. Cecil Ave from Highway 43?

You would be on the 43 for right about 20 miles and then W.Cecil Ave will come up. You turn left, and stay on West Cecil Ave for about 3 miles, and then Cecil Ave is on the left.

(There is Cecil and W. Cecil. You get off on Cecil from the 99 in Delano. When you make that left then you have progressed into West Cecil.)

When you leave Corcoran and are on the 43 headed that way, set your odometer for 20 miles-----------and as this mark approaches, keep your eye on the left for this street because it is right at about 20 miles that you will need to make the first left.

Good luck. It is a great shortcut and when I don't feel like cutting through Mojave / Tehachapi, I take that route as well. A good friend told me about it and boy does it save time---------------did get a ticket on that route, though.

Me too! I don't know where this cop came from---------either he was hiding behind a cow, or he transformed from a cow into a cop to pop me.

Nightmare!
