Anyone know how I might get my guy transferred from Hutchinson to Larned?? He's in bad shape, his counselor doesn't know what to do (although he seems quite nice, as CO's go) and mental health is throwing up their hands because he won't cooperate. He's severely ill (psychotic) and non-responsive and has stopped eating. I do have medical POA for him and I'm needing to know any options I might have for getting him the proper care.

I would contact Topeka and continue to hound them. Hutch is notorious for not letting anybody leave there. Contact as many people as you can in Topeka and telling them the situation. They will eventually get tired of hearing from you or they will realize that moving him to Larned would be best for everyone. Don't give up. The DOC just seems to not want to do what someone wants them to do, no matter what. It is no biggie to them to stick him on a bus and take him 45 minutes away.
