Hey All.

I mailed my baby lots of mail last week and he was suppose to get a couple or few magazines, and he still has not received anything and he should have received either by the End of LAST Week or at the Beginning of This Week. But still NOTHING...................

Have your men complained too??

Hey Sanchez: I so get what you mean...... I get that way at times.

But for some reason they must be holding my mans mail. There is only one "good" letter in there if you know what I mean! :)

The rest is informational stuff he's been needing, etc. And his mags too!

If anyone else isn't getting their mail, please let me know! Thanks!!!! :(

They can have up to 40 stamps, 40 envelopes, and 1 tablet of paper....or 15 loose sheets per mailing. It can't exceed 2lbs. I have done way more and it has always gotten through, but then again, it depends on who is working the mail room.

EXACTLY.......me too; I've sent way more when it comes to the paper, just under 2 lbs and it gets through! I've sent two large envelopes (9" x 12" - nonpadded) full of paper, envelopes, and stamps.:D

Mine said today that he is not getting his mail also for about 2 weeks. I sent him some paper and a photo of his son over a week ago, and he hasn't seen it yet. Letters are lost out there too!

Are they now allowing books of stamps to be sent to the Corcoran 1 Shu? When my husband was there I was only allowed to send pre-stamped envelopes.

P.S. AGAIN, IS ANYONE ELSE'S MAN HAVING PROBLEMS RECEIVING THEIR MAIL? IT HAS BEEN JUST ABOUT TWO WEEKS SINCE I SENT MY MAIL TO HIM AND NOTHING!!!!!!!

He needs to write it up. They have ten business days from the day that the letter is received and stamped in the mailroom to get it to him. Once he gets a piece of recent mail, have him look at the date received stamp. If it is stamped over 10 business days prior to him getting it, he can write it up.

This happened to me and mine during February when their was an overlad of mail for Valentines day, and then back to back Monday holidays with the two President's Birthdays. He didn't get mail from me for 2 weeks and I stay writing. He wrote it up upon the first piece of mail that started rolling in and it has not been a problem since. I understand the whole short staffed problem, but there are no provisions in the title 15 that exclude policy and "timely manner," due to short staffing...........so out of compliance is out of compliance, and I'm sure that the prison understands this...............afterall, I'm sure that a C.O. would fail to write up an inmate for not standing up during count due to "short staffing."

It works both ways.

There is no lockdown to my knowledge. I was just there yesterday. Does your man have envelopes, stamps, writing paper, etc.? Or money on his books to purchase some? If not, you can send him books of stamps, paper, etc....... OR sometimes the guys just get caught up at just arriving there, learning what to do, etc... that they just aren't thinking of writing quite at the moment. You know, sort of learning the ropes. But I am sure he will come around soon.

If you need to know about Lockdowns, you may want to call the 800# at: 1-800-374-8474, then press 1, 4, 1 and that will take you directly to Corcoran 1 visiting and lockdown information.

Also, reception mail is always slow at first. Seems to be true at every reception hub.

Send him writing supplies and just keep writing and sending cards and postcards. More than likely - HE hasn't been getting mail and thinks you are writing him. :D

Reception BLOWS - it just does. Hang in there and it WILL get better!!

In every mailing, you can send 20 envelopes, 20 stamps, and 25 pieces of paper. The mail in 3B Gym is hell of slow, as my man has stated numerous times. Hang in there!
HOWEVER...if your man has no $$ on his books, he may be trading stamps and stuff, for things he wants/needs...that's what mine did before I sent his quarterly package! LOL Sooooo, someone else was getting letters with MY stamps! Grrrrr.
My man is now under strict orders (as if) to use them to write me and the kids, not Trade em! ;)
It is never easy, but it gets less difficult after they settle in. I also have heard nothing about a lockdown...it's just slow mail as far as I'm aware.
God Bless

I spoke with my husband this morning, he said he JUST received mail I sent before I left for Las Vegas. I sent off those letters on or around August 8th. So it took close to if not 14 days to get my mail. I'm only 3 hours away from Corcoran .
I called the lockdown hotline this morning and the where no lockdowns for 3b.

Yes, Corcoran has their good and bad weeks when it comes to mail. This week my man got his mail very quick, even before our visit yesterday. I mailed out on Sunday, which did not go out till Monday and he actually received in his hands on Thursday. That hasn't happened in ages. Usually takes 7 days to get and sometimes more.

I wonder if it depends on the yard because my man is 3C and I mailed him a big manilla envelope on Sunday and he had it on Tuesday night when he called me. Then his cards got to him the next day. He has bene getitng his mail in 3-4 days for the past 4-5 months.

I think your right. I'm sure the USPS got it there in a few days, but once it was at Cor1 it may have took some time to get to the right yard. It's kind of a big place, the yards are spread out.

But my point is, i think it depends on the yard and the CO, my man had his legal and personal letter withing two days of me mailing it and this was in his hands not at the prison. Because when he broguht up the letter i was just stunned that he got it so quick.

LOL - yep, you're correct. Sorry - I cover (moderate) the forums for NKSP, WASCO, and CCI, so I tend to jump to thinking slow mail is due to reception.

I bet you're correct because this happens a lot at KVSP, which is also a huge prison spread way out like Corcoran is. There are mailrooms for each of the 5 main yards and staff rotates, so one yard will see really fast delivery while another is at a week or more. Sounds like the same might be happening at COR.

Also, with the budget mess, if you have free staff who work your mailrooms, many got laid off if they were part-time workers - just a guess, but this might also be a reason.

You can send the following:

Postal Stamps - No more than 2 books per envelope
Photos not larger than 8x10 (No more than 20 per envelope)
Money Orders (made payable to the inmate & must include his cdc#)
Greeting Cards (without music)
Calendars (without any wire binding)
Magazines Subscriptions (but they must come straight from the vendor)
Letters
Up To 10 pages printed from the internet, even though I got away with sending more than 10.
The one thing I've done is, you can send the large manila envelope (not padded) with paper, envelopes, stamps, etc. BUT it can NOT be more than 2 pounds. AND it has to be posted by the Post office stamp either from the walk up counter, or by printing at the self help machine. Otherwise it will get returned, IF it is OVER 13 ounces and it has regular stamps on it. It happened to me! I hope the envelope doesn't get returned to you. But it may! Keep your fingers crossed. ;)

Yes, that is usually why they ask for the drawings. And it is not a matter of someone else have drawings, it's they want different ones.

I didn't even think of the layoffs... I decided to read straight through this time. My mail is SO slow!!! I mailed a letter on July 21, he didn't get it until my birthday on the 16th. But I got a letter from him that took only three days to get here. Go figure.

I am going to ask. Manilla envelopes with just stamps on it, not pre printed from the post office. Is that a new thing? I have sent the large manilla envelopes before, never had a problem until just this past month. All the stuff I sent was returned to me. Never happened until July...

You can NOT send stamps ON the envelope; but you can send a book of stamps to him and he can put the stamps on himself. You can send the larger size envelopes folded in another to him. I've done it before and it was fine. Just not the padded ones. If your envelope was returned, it may not have been from the size, but because stamps were on it. Wasn't there a note why your stuff was returned??? Maybe the rules have changed about sending larger envelopes & I haven't heard about it yet..........interesting.

hhhmmmm let me know if you need anymore help.

No Junior, you are right, there is nothing about the size of envelopes. I know sometimes they will return the 12x9 or whateer the next biggest size is.

Also, mail is slowing up again, my mans mail is taking 2-2.5 weeks to get to him. this is cards and letters, we will see about his big envelopes I just maile dout.

No, I don't send prestamped anything anymore. I sent a manilla envelope to him, with a bunch of pics and stuff in it, and it got returned to me. All it said was invalid postage, after it got to CA. So I don't know if because it was a big envelope or what, but it had plenty of postage according to my scale. My favorite was when boo bought me a book and sent it to me, and the manilla envelope arrived at my house empty with a stamp on it that said "no contents on arrival". That was a nice surprise. :(

How many pictures did you have in it, they are only allowed 10 per envelope. And look at the new mail regulations, from what i have just read they are going to start enforcing the USPS rules. Sorry they did not give you a reason.

These were to take effect last year but now they are in writin..Essentially this is saying they have 7 days from the time the mail is recevied at the prison to give it to the inmates. package will be given to the inmates withing 15 business days. I beleive the books and such are also within 7 days. There was so much on here but i read a lot fo this alst year.

Something I was thinking, because this happened to me previously awhile back ago...... was your envelope OVER 13 ounces and you just put stamps on it???? IF SO, if you envelope is OVER 13 oz, then you have to EITHER walk up to the post office counter and have them stamp it and they ask you one simple security question (usually). OR if you have what we have here in CA, a self help center machine in the P.O. and weigh it there, and if over 13 oz. you can print a P.O. Stamp from the machine. OTHERWISE, for security reasons, ALL posts offices are not accepting ANY envelopes OVER 13 oz UNLESS it was "stamped" by the P.O. themselves or the selfhelp machine.

Take care and Good Luck!

I have no idea what is going on over there. My boo hasn't gotten mail in 16 days, probably longer now cuz that was on Sunday... and I have sent plenty of mail. My other friend that is there, I sent a letter and some pictures four weeks ago. He just got it Saturday. But they are in PHU... I don't know what goes on in there, cept that I found out (here I think) that each section has it's own mail room... so who knows.

When I talked to my husband (level 1) on Sunday, he had just received mail I sent the last week of September. So the mail is definitely SNAIL MAIL maybe closer to slug mail!!! It's been taking an average of 12-14 days from the day I send it before it gets into his hands. But I do get his mail in 3-4 days.

10 days from the date is received it's supposed to be handed to the inmate. I know that two or three days a week they just don't get mail, but I don't remember what days those are, or if they are different for each yard. Only thing your man can do (or mine or whose-ever) is file a 602, but I don't know what good that actually does except create more paperwork... at one point i wrote a letter to the mailroom and to the head guy of his unit, and it worked for a little while, but other than that I don't know what else to say.

Only thing your man can do (or mine or whose-ever) is file a 602, but I don't know what good that actually does except create more paperwork... at one point i wrote a letter to the mailroom and to the head guy of his unit, and it worked for a little while, but other than that I don't know what else to say.

Yeah, Corcoran has its faster & slow months when it comes to the mail. If filing a 602, it seems they pay some attention to it when it is filed as a "Class Complaint" when many inmates file together. Last month, it seemed like mail got better and my man was getting his mail within 4 days of me mailing it!!!! But now we are back to the 7-14 days from when I mail it. (it only takes 2 days to get there) Who knows what the reason is, it is what it is........... unfortunately.

Mine and my baby's dealings with Corcoran, well, most everything we deal with is on the very slow side, when we compare to all the other prisons he has been in. It definitely takes some adjusting too.

I am happy to hear that everyone else is having the delayed mail and I am also upset because it shouldnt be taking that long. It took has been taken up to 15 days for my husband to receive his mail and I wanted him to receive our anniversay card close to our date but it doesnt look like that will happen!!!!! Hang in there ladies

Yeah I've been writing my friend he's in the SHU and it takes him forever to get my mail but I get his letters in 3 days. Makes no sense but at least half of the process is going fast.

I feel you all! There actin real shady and keep holdin the mail. It takes almost 2-3 weeks for my man to get my letters and It takes like 2-3 days for me to get his. It just gets me soo mad cause why do they need to hold their mail for?

I sent a postcard last Wednesday (Sept. 17). Those usually get to them rather quickly. But we will see. I spoke to my husband this morning, he has not received it yet. We should talk again on Thursday. I will let you all know how long it took the postcard to get in.

OK the postcard I send Sept 17th got to him Sept 24, so it took about 1 week. So either way it still takes time to get to them.

I was so glad to see this... it's been weeks and I was beginning to wonder not to mention the mail I have gotten, he didn't respond to any of mine, seem like we are just in lag time again.... such a frustration.. thanks for sharing it ladies, makes it easier when we know we aren't alone. :D

OK... My question is... Can we send them a home made card, like one that is colored in ink or colored pencil? Without photo copying it???

Mine just got the letter I mailed three weeks ago. All the pictures were bent up too. The mail is totally sucking right now. Anyone know how long it will take their package to get to them once it is delivered to the prison?? I ordered it Thursday, it should ship by Monday, maybe arrive Tuesday or Wednesday? I am just hoping he gets it sometime before friggin christmas.. :)

My husband is on the level 1 yard. His package arrived at Cor1, I'm guessing no later than Oct.7th, he didn't get it until Friday the 17th. They are slow with everything!!! :blah:
