Ok, I am here in KY and we dont get the priviledge of getting family visits here, but I am sooooo curious about these visits. California and NY get them I think. But can you tell me how these work? How often do you get them and I would think that it would be a long wait to get them. What has really got me wondering is, yes, I know that you can be with your hunny, but if they are family visits are you able to bring the kids and whatnot?

I have seen little personal talk on here, but what I really want to know is, that I would feel terribly uncomfortable having sex where I KNOW that the place was tore down (if you know what I mean). I havent seen a "trailer" I guess they are called, what is it like? Can you bring movies, food and stuff? What about bed clothes how does that work? I am clueless and the suspense is killing me. I know we will NEVER get them here in KY but I am curious. What are you allowed to bring? I see alot of prisons on here that allow you to bring food to the inmates, my husband has been at 5 prisons here in KY and none of them allow you to bring outside food in. Even when he was in the honor dorm (which was short) they would no longer allow outside food in.

One person can screw it up for all of us. I get so jealous when I read on here that girls are making their guys cookies and such. It is unbelievable to me. A small state like us, should be more understanding. We cant even send home packages anymore. They stopped that when my dad was in the 90's, at least everywhere my husband has been at. What are the family visits like upon entering the facility, are you strip searched? I am sure they search all your stuff. Fill me in here, I am lost and very curious!!!!!!!!

Here's my personal experience with family visits.
Where my husband is at there arn't that many people that get them so we can get them every 30 days. We get 2 days. Either Thurs to Sat or Sat to Mon. You check in either Thurs or sat morning at 9 and they take you out either sat or mon morning at 9. I bring all the toiletries that we will be using, I also bring a sheet for the matress and towels and wash clothes. The recently made it so the visitor has to bring in the plates, cups, utencils. It's actually better that way cause we don't have to boil all the utencils and stuff before we can eat. They check my bags and I go through the metal dector. No strip search or anything.

The co escorts me in and brings our food and linens. The food is mostly microwave stuff. My husband is waiting for me in the visiting area. We are then brought into the trailer. The co goes over the food list to make sure everything is there then leaves and locks the gates and were in. Where we have family visits the trailers are old but they are pretty clean.

The co's call 3-4 x's during the night during count and at shift change. My husband has to step out so the tower can see him. They also call once during the day at shift change. He steps out again at that time so the tower can see him. There is a TV, radio in the trailer and that's about it. We can't bring movies or anything in. There is also a fridge, microwave, stove and toaster. We can bring 2 magazines in a board games. If you have children they can come also.

The inmate has to do a pee test before going into the trailer and when he comes out.

THAT SUMS IT UP  WHEN I HAD MINE WE GOT THEM EVERY 90 DAYS AND WE DID NOT HAVE A STOVE ONLY A MIRCO.

You said the co leaves and locks the gate...That freaks me out...Do you mean you're LOCKED in the trailer?? Even w/ my man that would give me a straight ANXIETY ATTACK. I can't handle being LOCKED in anywhere. Oh boy my heart is thumping just thinking of being locked in there. Yowzas.

Well your not locked in the trailer but you are locked in to the f.v. area. We can go outside of the trailer and walk around. There is grass and picnic tables. The f.v trailer is surrounded by a chain link fence, equiped (sp)with razor wire of course. That gate gets locked. Your basically in prison for 2 days. The only way you can get out early is if it's a medical emergency.

Once your approved your husband "should" get a paper that says what you can and can't bring in with you. Have you asked in the Corcoran forum what to expect? Oh, Congratulations:D Your gonna love it!

Ok that makes it a little bit better but still scary...I'm a freak and being trapped/stuck somewhere just freaks me out. It's why I can't fly anywhere...I'm not afraid of flying I'm afriaid of being trapped on a plane..I can't ride the bus or metro either haha. OH well. Glad you get visits. I'm sure besides being trapped they're AMAZING!!

I'm very excited and of course nervous. Why I don't know, its not like I havent seen him before, just being able to be alone with him for 2 days has me anxious, etc..... These nerves will probably settle down after the first time and then I will know what to expect the next time. Where he is at, I think as long as they have a job we would be able to have family visits every 45 days. He has to wait at least 30 days after the first one to apply for the next one. These visits will help our time pass away quickly. He still has 11 yrs to go. :( We are managing to endure it ll though. :) Although it does get hard at times. As soon as I find out our date and he sends me the info on what I can bring, I will post it on here.

The first one is kinda hard. It was for me. After you have spent 2 days alone with your husband and getting to function like a real couple then you have to leave and go back to how it has been. I felt like my husband was taken away from me again. But as you start getting them it does get easier. We don't really get too sad at the end of our f.v anymore. We just tell each other that we got through another one and we are another step closer to him coming home. Then we get to start the wait for another one and we have something to look forward to again.

I'm very excited and of course nervous. Why I don't know, its not like I havent seen him before, just being able to be alone with him for 2 days has me anxious, etc..... I mean, I guess I see what you mean, that you are locked in on a family visit until the visit is over. Barring emergency. But, for me, I'm not planning on leaving unless there's an emergency anyway, so I wouldn't sweat it. And I think in Cali (where I go) most places you are fenced in around the Family visiting place, not locked in at the door.

To me, I notice the doors/gates locking behind me at every visit. Yes, I can leave when I want, but I have to be "let out"by a key or from a tower control unit. Meaning I'm locked in until someone lets me out. I don't leave those visits 'til the last possible second, either, so it makes no difference when I can leave since I won't leave 'til I have to.

Just a quick update ladies. We are getting closer to having a date set. My husband in his anxiousness forgot to add up the food menu and sign it so he got it back a few days ago from the f.v. coordinator. And he sent it back to f.v. coordinator a.s.a.p. (smile). He called last night and said that he wouldnt call again until he has the date for me. So here we go again, patiently hurrying up and waiting. I know we will not be sad after the first visit having to leave each other after spending 2 days together. We will be thanking God for that time and looking forward to the next time,etc.....I'll keep everyone posted. We should hear something real soon. Be blessed. Deena

Hi Ladies, just wanted to update everyone. We got our date. Thank God, that wait is over. :) And to think because of the anxiety getting to both of us, I went down there (spur of the moment) this past weekend to visit with him. He called tonight and we go the first week in August. So as you can imagine, i'm very excited. Hasn't quite hit me yet though. Perhaps as the day gets closer, reality will hit me. He is sending me the confirmation papers in the mail tomorrow, so when I receive them, I will be able to provide more info on what i'm allowed to take there, etc......I'll keep everyone posted. Be blessed. Sexy Cats Meow.......

Hello everyone,
You are so right light at end, we have about 24 days to go. And the anxiety is about to kill me literally. Seems like the waiting to get date set was so much to bare and now the waiting for the actual day to arrive is even worse. Yet I'm not complaining. I'm just so anxious, 2 days alone with my sweetie, I don't care how many times he got to get up for the count at night, It doesn't matter as long as we're together. I'm going to enjoy our alone time. As you can imagine I have my bag already packed except for my clothes, I will put them in the night before. I have to bring all the cosmetics for us both to use, and plastic plates, cups, bowls, and forks etc....while packing I felt like I was getting ready to go camping. :) I feel so blessed because our date just happens to be my birthday week. So what a wonderful birthday present I will have. Spending 2 days with my husband...woohoo. Well I talk to you all again soon. Stay blessed. SexyCatsMeow

We're doing about the same waiting game. My next one is the first weekend of Aug. so I have 22 days to go. We need to do our countdown together. That is a great B-Day gift. We got married on my Birthday. We were able to have a f.v. on our 1st anniversary. It was such a great give. I know what you mean about it feeling like your going on a camping trip. I take my bag out of the closet a week before so every morning when I get up I can see it and smile and every night when I go to bed I know we are one day closer. Have fun.

Hi light at end, I see we're running neck and neck, lol. We go on a Tuesday the 5th and my b-day is that following Saturday on the 9th. So I will be on an extended vacation from home. I plan to go down to L.A. to grannies house on Thursday and possibly going to a day spa in Corona on Friday, then back up to visit with him on my b-day and also on Sunday. And then wait on the next one (smile). So the countdown is on. We got the weekdays because my husband checked all the boxes on the application even the standby box. It was no problem for me to get the vacation time off from work, yet that weekend would have been the icing on the cake on my b-day but it's all good. I'm grateful for the date we have. It's going to be very special. Talk to you later. Stay blessed. SexyCatsMeow

p.s. Spooky77 thats right don't be scared, it's all good. Enjoy your visit :)
