I just found this on the Ministry of Community Safety & Corrections website and thought I would share it with you.

"Construction of the Toronto South Detention Centre, announced May 9, 2008 by the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, supports the Ontario government's commitment to safe, strong communities. The future site of Toronto South Detention Centre is currently occupied by the Mimico Correctional Centre, which typically houses 40 inmates on a full-time basis and up to 350 on an intermittent (weekend) basis.
Also located on the site will be the Toronto Intermittent Centre, which is a minimum security facility used primarily to house inmates serving weekend sentences.
Construction of the new 1,650 bed facility will ensure we have new facilities ready to meet our current and future capacity needs and to resolve issues regarding overcrowding at the aging Toronto Jail.
Toronto South Detention Centre will:

Reduce inmate overcrowding in the Greater Toronto Area
Reflect sound correctional practices in a functional, maximum security working environment
Maintain the highest of security standards, with state-of-the-art technology"
