Prison for ex-guard in Beaumont bribery case
BEAUMONT, Texas - A now-former guard at a federal prison in Beaumont must serve nearly three years behind bars in a bribery and contraband case.
Prosecutors say a federal judge in Beaumont on Wednesday sentenced 37-year-old Robert Ayala of Richmond, Va., to 33 months in prison.
Ayala pleaded guilty in February to accepting bribes.
Investigators say Ayala was working at the Federal Correctional Complex when he received $2,500, via Western Union, to provide a cell phone and tobacco to an inmate.
