My son is in Parchman and is being told that he cannot transfer as his sentence with life without the possibility of parole. Can anyone confirm whether or not that is true? I sure would like to see him get moved a little closer to our home which is in the state of Florida.

There are inmates serving LWOP at SMCI and other facilities. You can contact the Director of Inmate Services to inquire as to transfer possibility.

I know several here have gone through this and hope they will be along to help you.

He would not be able to transfer out of state. As Mrs. Glamma mentions, SMCI would probably be as close as he could get.

Thank you both. I wish he could transfer to Florida but I was already told he couldn't come back here. But I certainly will contact ljordon@mdoc.state.ms.us. Thank you both again. I'll let you know how it goes.

Hello,
I did try to email and it was returned back to me. Do you have any other way to get in touch with someone at mdoc.

I actually found it more helpful to just pick up the phone and call her... Leanette Jordan... Director of Offender Services... (601) 359-5099. I strongly recommend you at least "offer" to pay transfer expenses... budgets are tight... transportation expenses have skyrocketed... and you're asking them to do you a favor... Good Luck! JG

Oh, if they move him at his request he will be required to pay transport costs unless he can prove hardship.
:o My heart goes out to you. I know exactly how you feel. My son is in the same situation. He is now in WCCF in MS but it is 10 hours driving for us. He has life without parole also. He has talked about being transferred closer to home and we will send him money for the cost when he fully decides to do it, but for right now he seems pretty well adjusted. So we are just waiting for him to let us know. I can not even imagine how it must be in there for him, but it seems like he has just really reconciled himself to the fact that he will never be out. I just can't do that, yet. I find a lot of encouragement on here and sometimes it just help to know you have people who are walking in the same path you are and you are not there by your self. I wish they had a system that was like this for the inmates to talk back and forth but then I am sure that could never work. This is not anything I ever invisioned in my lifetime, but I am doing my best and trying to always be positive. I know that God has the big plan and somewhere in it we will know the why's and what if's, etc. It will all be made understandable. Keep the faith and never give up.
