Back by popular demand! The PTO State / Regional / Country Fund Raiser Challenge has started and will run through July 15, 2008!
For the members who were not around in years past when we held this, the "Challenge" or "Competition" between States / Regions is a fun & lighthearted (remember that! :p)“competition” between the different U.S. States, Regions, and other Countries, in which the State, Region or Country who contributes the most as a “team” wins. In 2005, the winner was the State of Texas. In 2006, the winner was the State of California. Who will it be this year!?!
How does it work?
Every PTO member who donates is able to assign their contribution to an Individual State or Country if you live outside the United States. All those who have contributed (previous and future) will be contacted about where they would like their contribution to count. In the few instances where we do not hear back from members we will attribute a member’s contribution to the location which they have listed in their profile. If it is not listed, we may research further and see where most of their post activity takes place regionally. This may be changed prior to the end of the fund raiser competition by contacting us via donate08@prisontalk.com (donate08@prisontalk.com) or responding to our inquiries.
We will do our best to keep a running total of where each State and Country is with total amounts contributed. This will be updated at least once a week, either with total donations, or with a graph if we are able to generate one.

If you want to cheer on your State, Region or Country, please use the following thread a global Pep-Rally:
http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=340833
“Pep-Rally” type threads are also allowed in Regional & State forums, but please keep all of them in a single thread. All additional threads will be merged with the first one that was started in any given State or Region..
So, what are the ‘benefits’ for the State, Region or Country that wins the Regional Fund Raiser contest?
Pretty much… Simply put… “Bragging Rights”... IF, and I mean IF we are able to get the awards system that was created a long time ago for our community software upgraded, we will look into an additional icon for all those in the State, Region or country that wins the fund raiser competition, but again, no promises. Should this happen, it will be retroactive and those who were a part of the winning teams will also receive them.
Additional Information….
Obviously, there are maybe 3-5 States / Regions that are quite large and have a better chance of winning the challenge than say, Idaho, however the competition is based on the total amount brought in by a State, Region or Country, and not the total number of people who contribute. Further, the “traffic” figures have changed significantly over the years and some (including me) are a little surprised at where the larger numbers of visitors and members are coming from.
The term "Team" is going to be given to every State / Regional forum even if they are not actually competing as a organized group.. No “Team Captain” is needed or designated.. If we receive a donation for one person in Alaska, then the “Team Alaska” has been formed and will get credit for it. If someone donates from Iceland then that will go to Team Iceland... UNLESS....
… A member specifies otherwise.. ANY member can designate that their donation go to another “Team” (State / Region / Country) outside of where they physically live. So, if you live in Rhode Island and want your donation to go to New York, you can specify that and it will count toward New York's total.
Keeping it Fun!
Please make sure that while we have a good time and "crank it up" with our ‘team mates’ that we are respectful and nice to all the other teams. Challenging another team is fine but please do so in a friendly manner and don't "bomb" into their forums & threads to taunt anyone. Nobody's feelings should end up hurt over this challenge.
"Matching Fund Offers"
Last thought (for the moment) on the challenge… There are some people who may offer to financially match the donations made by the members of their team. Example: “25 cents for every contribution received in Fiji”... Whatever the total is that they end up matching will be counted only after the 2008 Fund Raiser Regional Challenge has ended (July 15th) and the funds have been received. No matching funds will be included until after this time, so this could potentially be a wild card. The only caveat to this is that the offer to “match funds” MUST BE made prior to July 1, 2008. No fund matching will be allowed after that point beyond those who already have specified they would do so.
Now that we got the details out..… Let the 2008 Challenge Begin! J
Thanks!
