Please!

My youngest son is in the Army Reserves here in Texas. He received some kind of box yesterday in the mail, that has "orders" for him to report to a doc in Killeen (his reserve unit is in Austin) and the box contains medical stuff, like syringes, gauze, containers...that kind of stuff. He said that it says "Reserve Medical Readiness".

He had his drill this last weekend, and he didn't hear any rumors or talk of deployment, but I am a wee bit worried. Don't they have to give them some type of notice before deployment?

All I can find on the internet is that Reserve units are eligible for deployment once every 5 years. It has been right at 5 years since their last deployment.

My son has been home from basic training/AIT for exactly one year from next week...so I was wondering, maybe, is this a yearly thing the army will do or is this really something else?

I posted in my home state forum but haven't had any suggestions as to what this might be....

Can my fellow PTO'ers that have military experience help me? I would appreciate it.

Thanks much!

never heard of anything like that. doesnt mean it doesnt exist, but why would they send your son syringes? through the mail. is he a combat life saver? still, through the mail?

i would have him contact his chain of command asap to get answers. they will be able to tell him whats going on. good luck

Thanks for the reply disco... I have been out of town for a week without internet access....

He did call his staff sgt and he told him the physical was "routine". He went last Wed to the doc and had blood taken and a few other neurologic tests done.. (touching his nose with his fingers) and the doc didnt even exam him.

So for now, I will accept this was routine. But I won't hold my breath!

He is a Combat Engineer... by choice. Not by his Momma's choice, but his!

Thank you again.

:confused:To be honest I can't imagine why the military of any branch would be sending your son a box full of syringes,as well as other medical supplies that are part of your basic needs for maybe a diabetic pts. personal monthly own supplies. My son is actually a Lance Corpral in the U.S.Marine Corp.and his job also consists when deemed necessary to drive a ambulance. They are issued their supplies by their medical units, not individually sent home to each enlisted mans personal address,I E-mailed him in Japan with this very question,He responded back to me ???wondering where I heard such a crazy thing as this,I'm also a nurse myself and these syringes is whats got me so bugged?,cause you have to have a prescription to even purchase these its a law, not just anyone can walk in a store and buy these. He might have recieved someone elses supplies by mistake...Be aware... uote=discoball;3693509]never heard of anything like that. doesnt mean it doesnt exist, but why would they send your son syringes? through the mail. is he a combat life saver? still, through the mail?

Even if you are a Combat Life Saver, you don't get issued syringes.
A Combat Life Saver bag consists of bandages, alcohol wipes, band-aids, lots of gauze pads and a complete IV kit and IV bags. But never any syringes. The medics carry those and a combat life saver is not a medic. They just take care of someone untill a medic gets to them.

Whats really odd here is, you don't just get this stuff shipped to a civilian residence. Everything that belongs to the military is an accountable item and you must sign for it and be accountable for it.
