My cousin just got transferred from NC to the Miramar, CA prision around 2 weeks ago. She has yet to write me and I know she got her one call to my aunt. The reason I am posting is that I have a few questions about her term.

Mail: I read somewhere that I need to be on a list for her to be able to send/receive mail to/from me. If this is true, how do i go about getting her to add me.

Also, I dont know where this is supposed to go:
She was sentenced to 12 years and with the possibility of parol in 4 years. My aunt told me that she is supposed to go before another trial in order to move her from High security to I guess they are calling it "Normal Population". Now this is something that my aunt had not heard before so we are wondering if this is normal. She was on suicide watch for 1 week, and they still havent done her orientation since they dont have many new prisoners coming in, so they told her she would have to wait. This doesnt seem like normal practice, but i guess since i dont know the system, i just have to deal with it.

nottoo,
Hi. Welcome to the forum. I don't know much about Miramar, but I'm sure someone else who posts here will have some info for you. I think your cousin is probably going to have a hearing with a board to determine her custody level. She will probably be able to present reasons why her custody level should be lowered and the board will make the decision. As to why they don't process individuals, rather than groups, I have no answer. Each facility has some unique procedures so maybe someone else can shed some light on that for you. Good luck and keep the faith.
