View Full Version : Has anyone ever received strange letters from a loved one in prison?
babieboo 11-14-2003, 01:32 PM I have received a strange letter from my friend in prison. It was an extremely religious letter and all his previous letters he never mentioned anything about him being religious. The handwriting was totally off and it was just weird! Has this ever happened to anyone else?
toi_ama 11-14-2003, 01:35 PM He may be a mental patient who is untreated and is having an "episode" or maybe a mental patient who is refusing his meds. He might also have been under the influence of illegal drugs. Those would be my guesses.
mrsdragoness 11-14-2003, 07:02 PM If the handwriting is off, I'd suspect that someone else got your address and wrote the letter!!!

toi_ama 11-14-2003, 08:43 PM Now, that may be a possibility, too. I didn't think of that.
babieboo 11-15-2003, 08:37 AM You know what!! The envelope did not have my friend's name on it but he knew what he calls me(nickname) but he spelled my name wrong!) And whoever wrote it was able to draw a smiling face just like my friend so I am really confused. I wrote my friend back and told him I was confused and mentioned the religious letter so I guess I will find out who it really was. I was just hoping that maybe he is was out of stamps and he used his celly's envelope or something like that. I dunno! Thanks for all your replies cuz it helps.
soaring19988 01-15-2004, 12:03 PM my friends handwriting completely changed in between 2 letters sent, I figured since he always like expressing himself just how he felt at the moment that was what it was about. The total switch of emphasis with your friend seems startling though....is he on meds currently? Has he ever spoken of his religious beliefs? Mabye the next letter will see if it was just random, or those topics are increasingly on his mind?
Take care
ChandaMija 01-15-2004, 03:31 PM Yea, I've gotten several strange letters from my hunny (friends at some points) throughout our years. The handwriting was fine at the beginning, then it got more sloppy and weirder as he wrote page 2.. Then I recieved his next letter apogilizing that he was under the influence of a sleeping pill and wrote the letter when the medicine kicked in! :ha: I once got a letter from another inmate that I didn't know at all.. I was very scared to open it, but was relieved that he's my hunny's cellmate. He ran out of envelopes so he used his celly's envelope. :p Another time, we were having an argument. He vented :fb: on the 'inside' and a concerned friend of his wrote me telling me to help him chill out by writing or visiting cuz I'm the only person that can redeem myself and mellow him out from the 'hard' stress on the inside. I'm telling you all... Don't worry about 1-2 strange letters from your loved one.. Start worrying if the 'strange' letter becomes a regular thing, though! ;)

Hi, I'm so glad I found this web site, yes I have a son that is serving a life sentence, he has become extremely religious which there is nothing wrong with it but it is what he has gone thru. I don't understand it also, I was told by the prison officials that it was nerveous breakdown, my son says it was a revelation that God sent to him and he had to go thru these things to understand. It started with him stripping his clothes off and trying to leave the prison, he was talking out of his head that he was "God", he slashed his body up with a razor, ate his feces, etc. I just visited him this past Sunday and he seems back to his normal self but has in his head that he will be getting out in 5 years. What I"m afraid of is when that time comes and he's still there will he have a relaspe and what the effects will be this time. You have know ideal how my heart hurt to see him going thru that at the time. Thank you I just needed to get it off my chest, I don't have the answers, maybe we will find them.
StacyLBS 01-16-2004, 12:24 PM The same thing happened to friend of my ex-husbands who was locked up. He also is serving a life sentence. He really tripped out. My husband said that he spent a lot of time reading the bible and one day just freaked out. This happened a couple of years ago and he still is not the same guy. They put him on a lot medications even sent him to St. Elizabeths in DC (it a hospital for the insane). I believe it just happens to them when they once realize that they have to one deal with the amount of time and two deal with what they have done (crime). I pray that your son will be ok. You just pray too! Remember Prayer works.
