There have been few instances where addiction recovery and drug-reform groups have united in praise for federal drug policy, but President Bush earned kudos earlier this month for signing into law the Second Chance Act (http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d110:h.r.01593:), which provides for addiction treatment and other services for offenders reentering the community.

There's a weekly paper in Tacoma, WA called the Volcano. This week, it ran a letter about the 2nd Chance Act. (The Volocano is an arts & entertainment weekly which, interestingly, is distributed along with the Ranger, a weekly publication aimed at military folk who serve at Ft. Lewis and McChord Field.)

IMO, this is what people need to be doing all over the country--that is, writing letters to editors, raising hell at every opportunity. (And as this system comes crashing down around the politicos' heads, there will be plenty of opportunity for hell-raising.)

Best to all,

Frank Driscoll
