Hello. I am new here. I also posted this to the general AL forum. My story is long and complicated, but the basic story is I have a 70 year old grandfather who has been in the AL prison system since around 2001 or so. His release date isn't until 2021. I doubt that he will make it. It looks like he could die in prison.

He is now back in AL at Staton in Elmore. He is elderly and not in good health. He is treated bad obviously and to make matters worse, he is innocent. I know a lot of people say that. But I know for a fact, because he is in prison for supposedly sexually abusing myself and another. As a child, my grandmother (who raised me) literally forced us to say that he had abused. It was not true. When I became of legal age, I went to court and told them the truth. He was still sent to prison anyway. I have been depressed because of my life for many years and it has only gotten worse, because in part I don't know what to do to help him. I don't know where to start and I don't know how much worse it can get. Some people say that I should just get on with my life - I tried my best to make it right, I have my life ahead of me, etc etc etc. But I can't do that. I am not the kind of person that can just walk away from someone that needs help. And he really has no one else that will work to help him, so it is constantly on my back to do something.

The former DA and judge who tried his case will not likely be of any help to release him. They are very corrupt. I tried, and also, contacting the board of pardons and parole did not help. Who else should I write to or what else should I do? I am at my wits end and I don't know where to start. Any info or help is appreciated greatly. Also, is there a particular prison for elderly inmates or a particular ward or something that separates elderly and/or disabled inmates from the other inmates?

Thank you.

P.S.
Does anyone here have any loved ones that are in Staton? I know that in prison you don't really have friends, but it might help if he had someone to talk to or something someone inside that wasn't so hostile or abusive. It might make things a little more bearable.

P.P.S.
Sorry this is so long. I just also wanted to ask if it is allowed to send packages or anything in the mail to the inmates in Staton? I will search around the forums, but if anyone has any definite info please let me know. He is doesn't know the answer as he is not aware of much inside, because for one he doesn't have his hearing aids and glasses and he is nearly deaf and can't see well.

You can ask him to put you on his list and send him a money order. You can mail him a letter with a book of stamps. I answered you on one of the other forums. My son is there and plans to be a minister when he gets out

I just saw your other post also. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I replied to your other post and asked what the faith based dorm was. Is it a particular dorm for those wanting to be ministers?

No, just those willing to obey all the rules and saying they have some kind, any kind of faith
