My brother was just transferred to Elmore. He served a year in federal and it was nothing like state is (according to my bro). A few questions...What is visitation like? How much $ allowed to bring to visitation for vending (or do they even do that in state)? Are inmates allowed to get a daily newspaper? How about magazines-do they have to be sent from somewhere like amazon? If anyone has info on this and/or any updated info on anything to do with Elmore I would greatly appreciate it!

Hey my bf is in Elmore. I go visit him once a month and I usually take 35-40 dollors in change (suppose to take less but if they want to sit there and count it they can, but they don't 'cause it would take to long to do that to everyone). If you take pictures you have to buy the picture ticket when you check in before going on the the visitation yard. Pictures are 4x6-$4, 5x7-$6(?), and 8x10-$8. Yes they do have vending machines and the inmates can not hande the money and they are not allowed in the vending area unless they are taking pictures. You can not take anything in with you and only take your ignition key(key only, no key ring or other keys they will tell you to take the rest back out to your car). The one thing that I do not like is you can not cuddle, but our daughter loves all over her daddy and lays on his shoulder/arm and I can't :( . As far as the newspaper and magizines I am not sure on any of that. I think I read somewhere that stuff like that have to be sent from stuff like Amazon and be sent directly to them (?). You can send them stamps, I think 2 books at a time. I only send one at a time, and when you do write their name, ais#, and dorm and bed# on the front of the stamps. I guess that should answer all your questions, if you have any more you can send me a private message. Good luck and by the way visitation is from 7am-1pm.
