If not then nevermind, lol. The keys are okay I guess, kinda laid back. It is hot in August and hurricane season is on. This yr they think will be a busy one, YIKES!!! The hotel prices are up there. There's not alot to do IMO. great place if ya want to fish, drink or just plain chill out. The beach areas to be honest I wasn't that impressed with. The state has alot of other beaches that beat the keys hands down in my book. To me, the keys have always been over rated, but thats just me. CONGRATS on soon to be a MRS!! and his homecoming!!! I've been to Saint Augustine a couple of times, real old town with a bit of history. I hope the shopping village is still there that was nice. All kinds of stuff to see if you're into history stuff and the beach is beautiful, not over crowded. Not sure if its still allowed but when we went you could drive on the beach. Ft. Myers Beach is another thats nice, not crowded. There are some condos for rent right on the beach. below is a link for one that last year in the summer the rates were pretty good. http://www.pointeestero.com/pointeestero-resort-amenities.htm Miami Beach if you both are wanting alot to do, just beware the traffic is nutzz and there are alot of rude drivers, lol. If I think of anymore I'll be back. And hot damn NO PAPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! michael123 07-04-2008, 06:13 AM Houseboat vacations are best enjoyed with the family. Vacationing is simply the best way to relax and get together in a paradise such as the Florida Keys. bbycks41 08-11-2008, 09:24 AM We always vacation in Hollywood, which is right between Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. It is WONDERFUL there because you are right there between the big party cities, and it has an awesome boardwalk. The beaches in South Florida on the Eastern side are absolutely the BEST! Last year we drove down to Key West for 1 day to get married. It is pretty down in the Keys but if you love to swim in the ocean....forget it! The keys are built on coral reefs, and the beaches are man-made with sand brought in from other places. You have to wear shoes in the water because right underneath the sand is SHARP coral. It cuts your feet up! I would never spend a whole vacation there because I love to play in the ocean. Key West is a "party" town and you have to rent a scooter to get around. The whole Island is 4 miles by 2 miles. Unless you are going to party, shop, fish, or boat the whole time I would not go. If you are a beach person, I would stay above Miami and not venture into the Keys. Just my experience. If you want more info feel free to PM me. We have been to South Florida many times. Have fun where ever you decide to go. nimuay 08-11-2008, 09:57 AM I haven't been in the Keys for ages, but when I was . . . Key West was completely useless, because what I wanted was no people and lots of water. Islamorada was lovely, as was Baia Honda. John Pennykamp State Park was astounding, and we rented a houseboat, and visited Lignum Vitae Key, Deer Key, and several of the other uninhabited areas. Loved it. |
